What does 42 and saving internet radio have to do with one another?

January 31st, 2012

Question by That’s Enough: What does 42 and saving internet radio have to do with one another?
The other day I posed a question, what are the official numbers of people getting involved in saving internet radio.

My question was misunderstood. The first responce was the number 42. Was this a joke? Then I receieved another answer from someone else who also said 42.

I put the question to a community vote and the community selected the answer “42″ as the best answer. Huh?

I thought it was a joke and to be honest I still do. However this may actually mean something. So what does the number 42 mean? Please explain.

Is this the number of vote its needs in congress, something else, or just someone being a smartass! :)

Thanks for the help.

Is Obama’s inability to get Pelosi and Reid to broadcast their negotiations another sign of his weakness?

August 2nd, 2011

Question by Patches O’Houlihan: Is Obama’s inability to get Pelosi and Reid to broadcast their negotiations another sign of his weakness?
Obama said several times on the campaign trail that Americans would be able to see the negotiations on C-SPAN. Pelosi and Reid are blowing him off. Is that yet another sign of weakness for Comrade Obama barely a year after the “Hope and Change” rhetoric was at its zenith?

Q&A: How can we reduce the size of government without causing another great depression?

February 6th, 2011

Question by OwlBear: How can we reduce the size of government without causing another great depression?
The government has grown too big and needs to be reduced in order to stop the spiraling deficit. But how can this be done without causing another great depression?

The government is the largest employer in the US, millions of people are employed by it. When its size is reduced by any significant amount, people must be laid off and spending must also be reduced.

However, with the government laying so many people off, two things will happen; the tax revenue the government receives from their salaries will be eliminated, and those newly unemployed people will sharply reduce their spending. With less taxes coming in, the government would have to cut spending even more, further reducing its workforce and spending. With hundreds of thousands of newly unemployed people sharply reducing their spending, businesses will have to start laying people off to remain profitable, resulting in further reduced spending and reduced tax revenues.

The other part of the problem is cutting government spending. Unlike the public, the government spends its money almost entirely on US goods and services. Cutting that spending will reduce the business that government contractors receive, forcing them to lay off a lot of people, resulting in reduces tax revenue (requiring further reductions in spending to prevent greater deficit spending) and still lower levels of public spending.

In a nutshell, cutting the government hurts the economy, which causes further government cuts to be required in order to stay ahead of the deficit, which further hurts the economy, and on and on in a vicious cycle. Is there a way to bypass this, or are we going to have to tighten our belts, grit our teeth and make do until the economy eventually resets itself and recovers…if it ever does?

How do I transfer music from one iTunes list to another?

May 30th, 2010

Alright, so I’ve got like 3 different computers, and I have an iTunes list on each of them and have different music on all of them. So, is there a way that I can compile all my music onto one computer? I know there’s a website out there, but I can’t remember what it’s called. Other than burning all my music onto database CDs or separate music discs, can I get all my songs from one computer to another?
Thank ya!

Nfl – Washington Redskins: Another Defeat

April 2nd, 2010

The Washington Redskins were defeated again on Sunday, and it became the most painful loss because it meant they were out of the playoffs. They have lost five of the last six games they have played, which was a completely none expected situation. Coach Zorn and his team felt very humiliated with this last game in where the final score was 20-13 to one of the lowest teams in the standings, Cincinnati.

During the game, the fullback Mike Sellers attempted a run over the offensive line, but the ball was lost and recovered by the Bengals two consecutive times. The possession was rough for Sellers, who saw twice how a touchdown ran away from his hands. This was a play that they have previously talked about and decided to do, but it just didnâ??t turn out what they expected.

The team was in a tough position when the first quarter ended and the score was 14-0. That was really bad for them especially that early on the game. The team could not be excused on injuries either, because Clinton Portis tried to make everything he could and the offensive side was trying to help to open up some space for him to run, but the assistance was very little. Also, quarterback Jason Campbell left the game for a little moment since he was not feeling part of his elbow, but it was not significant. The team at the end tried to make an effort and comeback but they were just sloppy on the decision making and on defense in some occasions.

At the end of the game, the Redskins coach Jim Zorn asked himself what went wrong with his team; he though they had all the weapons and the team had very good players, his tactics and game systems were very solid but when they tried to put it on practice it didnâ??t work as he expected. Bottom line, he didnâ??t know if the practices where enough but he put all of his effort in the process, but his players were not fluid on what he was putting on the field and his ideas were maybe not the best in certain moments.

“I need to check my plan of attack,” Coach Zorn said. “And all of our staff, we need to re-evaluate what we’re doing to see if we’re going in the right direction. I really believe we’re building a good foundation, but certainly when these things get strung across the board I certainly have to take  and do take the responsibility for some of these games that just are not turning out like we have planned.”

Zorn was really overwhelmed with the whole situation of the team, and even said that he felt like â??the worst coach in Americaâ? However, even with this final results, Jim Zorn has had a lot of support from the Redskins owner Dan Snyder and from the front office chief Vinny Cerrato. Zorn explained that he was very thankful for the support that he has been receiving from both of them since he knows that they both very concerned about the team and they want the best for it; but after the game, neither of them wanted to talk about the loss.

Currently, Coach Jim Zorn has a lot of things to think about and will try to see the slips and mistakes that he did since this is his first season with the team. Nobody assured that the Redskins were going to be in the playoffs but they didnâ??t expect to see the team in the last position of the NFC East, least of all after blowing out a great opportunity to shine this season when they started with a record of 6-2.

Another One Bites the Dust! Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Aig and Washington Mutual

March 19th, 2010

What a mess.

Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy this weekend.  Merrill Lynch was bought out by Bank of America.  American International Group (AIG) is on the edge bankruptcy or being acquired for pennies on the dollar.   Last week the federal government took over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The US government set a potentially ugly precedent of not letting financial companies fail when it guaranteed JP Morgan Chase’s takeover of Bear Stearns in March.  This was reinforced with the takeover of the quasi-government agencies:  Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

Rumors of Lehman Brothers demise started last week.  The Government went into the weekend saying that it wouldn’t bail out Lehman.  The Government put the burden of finding a solution on the financial sector.  Several financial institutions were in the running, but it boiled down to Bank of America or nothing.  The answer was nothing.

It was kind of strange:  Bank of America started the weekend in talks to take over Lehman Brothers, but ended up walking away with Merrill Lynch by the end of the weekend.   I guess they didn’t want any more subprime garbage after acquiring Countrywide.

The real test is seeing what happens with AIG.  AIG currently is on the brink of being downgraded by Standard & Poors.  This will cost AIG billions of dollars.  They can avoid the downgrade by raising capital by either selling assets or getting more outside financing.  Either prospect is painful.  Though,  selling some of their assets might help get them back to their core business of insurance.

The catch to AIG is how much money they need.  They used to have a market capitalization of around $200 billion.  At the end of the day on September 15th, their market capitalization was around $15 billion.  They are looking for financing of $50 billion.  Why would someone lend a company money for 3x their market value?   Will they be too big to fail?

Check out 104Finance.com for more information about this crazy financial situation we seem to have gotten ourselves into.

Cross-country – Washington’s Gig Harbor Girls Just Miss Another State Title and Chance at History

March 16th, 2010

Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley

Washington State’s 2008 Prep Cross-Country Championships taught the Gig Harbor High School girls’ team a really disappointing lesson in knowing just how close is not close enough.

After winning 3 consecutive state titles in the 4A state championship competition, Gig Harbor fell 1 point short in the team competition Saturday (11-8-08) at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, settling for the runner-up spot.

Had they won, the girls would have set the Washington State record with 4 consecutive titles. Only two other 4A teams in state history have won 3 consecutive titles. Bellarmine Prep accomplished the feat in 1977, 1978 and 1979, and Issaquah matched the feat in 1985, 1986 and 1987.

So close and yet so far. Eastlake High School of Sammamish nipped the Tide runners 97 to 96. Eastlake’s runners finished 14th, 15th, 18th, 24th, 25th, 40th and 72nd. Gig Harbor’s runners finished 1st, 16th, 17th, 30th, 33rd, 44th and 48th. Each team has 7 runners but only the first 5 runners finishing figure in the team scoring.

Since Eastlake’s 5th scoring runner was 25th, it did not matter that Gig Harbor’s last two runners finished 44th (sophomore Kelly Williams in 20:05) and 72nd (senior Ashley Horton in 20:42).

Senior Alyssa Andrews of Gig Harbor won the 5000 meter run (3.1 miles) in 18:00 flat to become the state 4A champion. She could not have done any more for her team. Sophomore Brittany Kealy was 16th and junior Erin Hull was 17th, they both finished in 19:21 and did their job. Sophomore Danie Moon was 30th in 19:47 and senior Claire Betterbed was 33rd in 19:50.

Gig Harbor could have won its 4th consecutive title and set a new record if either Danie Moon had run 2 seconds faster and finished 28th rather than 30th, or Claire Betterbed had run 3 seconds faster over the 3.1 miles and finished 31st rather than 33rd. Two seconds faster or 3 seconds faster does not seem like that much unless your are running the 3.1 mile race in the highest level of competition.

Saturday’s result for the Gig Harbor girls underscores the importance of the 4th and 5th scoring runners during competition. When they are running behind it seems as if the value of their effort is diminished when in fact their importance becomes more valuable with each stride they take. Reaching down deep and passing just a couple of runners near the finish can make the difference between winning a state title and losing a state title.

Eastlake ran a great race and its spread was only 29 seconds between its first and last scoring finisher. Gig Harbor’s spread was 1:40, 71 seconds more. This is one reason why team running is emphasized in cross-country. Your best runner does not have to finish among the top 10 or 13 runners to win a state championship.

Coach Patty Ley and her girls were pretty disappointed to say the least. However, Gig Harbor did amazingly well considering that only one runner—eventual state champion Alyssa Andrews—returned from last year’s state championship team. Their finish was a testimony to Ley’s coaching and the tremendous winning tradition the Gig Harbor girls have built.

The Tide girls preceded their state meet finish by winning their 4th consecutive West Central District III championship at the American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood. Alyssa Andrews won the individual title in 17:45 to lead Gig Harbor to the title.

The Gig Harbor boys had a tougher go of it in the state 4A run, finishing 7th overall with 192 points. Mead High School of Spokane won the title with 98 points, racking up its 14th state championship in cross-country. Mead’s runners finished 8-9-24-27-30 with a 30-second spread.

Mead is legendary in Washington State, producing more top distance runners than any other prep school. Mead won 9 consecutive state titles from 1988 through 1996, and added 3 more titles from 2000 to 2002, making it 12 titles in 15 years. That is dominance by any standard.

Gig Harbor’s top boy finisher—junior Conner Peloquin—was 10th in 15:55. He was followed by sophomore Robby Ubben in 37th at 16:31, senior Chris Adgar-Beal in 43rd at 16:35, junior Spencer Payne in 49th at 16:40, senior Alex Sundell in 53rd at 16:44, senior Nate Funkhouser in 88th at 17:29 and sophomore Casey Kalbrener in 89th at 17:30.

Clearly, the girls rule at Gig Harbor at the moment.

Washington Personal Injury Lawyer Discusses Paying for Medical Bills When You Have Suffered from Another Person?s Negligence

February 26th, 2010

One of the first things that anyone would do after sustaining injuries because of the negligence of another person is to figure out how they will pay the medical bills. The question focuses on what are the options at an individual’s disposal to get compensation for what happened to them?

Each state of the U.S. has its own laws governing personal injury lawsuits or claims. The reason that so many personal injury compensation issues end up as claims is that today’s society is very heavily insured. The majority of drivers have auto insurance covering their liability on the road. The majority of businesses both large and small have operational policies covering both worker’s compensation and injuries to customers or others in public spaces. The majority of homeowners have insurance that also may cover injuries to individuals that happened on their properties.

The amazing thing is that even though insurance functionally covers all of these areas, so many Americans have trouble getting compensation to pay their medical bills when something happens to them. As mentioned, the rules are different in every state. In the state of Washington—where urban areas like Seattle and Spokane serve huge populations—it’s clear that the complexity of personal injury law often leads to individual citizens hiring Washington personal injury lawyers to help them obtain the compensation they need for paying medical networks after they have been injured.

A simple look at some of the main personal injury situations in the state of Washington will show some of the ways that personal injury legal teams get quick payment for their customers. Specifically, many of the injuries sustained by individuals are caused on the road. For a better look at what happens when car accident victims seek personal injury compensation, Washington residents should look at state laws on the auto insurance policies that most drivers carry.

For example, if you bought auto insurance coverage in Washington, you may know that state auto insurers are required to offer what’s called uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage to policyholders. What you may not know is that according to Washington state legal experts, these companies are also required to hold waivers of proof of customers who have turned down this coverage. Without the waiver, a driver who is not covered may be granted coverage at the time of the accident.

What this means to those who understand insurance lingo is that there are many cases where an insurance company has to provide uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage retroactively to their clients when they are victims in a car accident.

Another issue in many personal injury claims is what’s called an adversarial nature. The other side of this is what some legal professionals refer to as a good faith contract. What both of these really mean is that too many insurance companies deny or delay claims or do not work in the interest of a personal injury victim. Many personal injury victims hire legal teams, such as The Bernard Law Group lead by Kirk Bernard, to be effective advocates for them in interpreting and implementing all of the applicable insurance laws and other areas of the law that will help them get money to pay off the hospitals and doctors that they sought services from after an accident. Regardless of whether this accident was caused on or off the road, personal injury legal teams are very often the best vehicle for families who may face medical debts because of the situation that they did not cause. For more on these kinds of situations in the state of Washington or other states, ask local legal teams about your injury and what options you may have.
