World Traveling Place – Washington DC Tourist Attractions

Washington DC is the capitol state of the United States of America, any visitor coming to the US would surely want to visit the city that has a complete classy environment and varied tourist attractions here. The famous Washington DC tourist attractions include architectural government buildings, museums, monument, the National Mall and the Smithsonian museums. While at Washington DC you can never get bored of anything as there are several attractions along with the attractions of nearby suburbs of Virginia and Maryland. Washington DC is situated at the eastern coast of the US, over 230 miles south of New York City. It takes just half an hour drive to Baltimore and over two hours drive to reach Philadelphia. Given below are some of the famous locations to visit in Washington DC, you surely cannot cover all of them in just one visit. It will require a week or so to completely love the beauty of the place and enjoy your time at each of its beautiful and ancient museums:

 

a.        The Smithsonian museums – They are world famous, they cover wider range of topics relating to arts, space exploration and national treasures. You can get the map and information from Smithsonian Institution building. These are very interesting to see and kids especially would love to explore the interactive space museums. Save your time to watch IMAX movie at the space museum and Natural history museum.

b.       The National monument and memorials – the national monuments are truly spectacular showcasing its rich heritage. You can see their best during nighttime when they are lit, and they are also less crowded so parking is easier. You can take a tour bus during day time and the park ranger will surely keep you entertained.

c.        Three government houses – While at US capitol state, you cannot miss out but to visit the capitol building, the US supreme court and the White House. You will get a fulfilling understand of the democratic government here. You can book advance tours to visit these places.

d.       George town – Georgetown is the place where you would love to spend time near the historic waterfront, the area is crowded with lots of activities going on. It is the best place for shopping and enjoying quite meal at the restaurants here.

e.        Do not forget to visit concerts and shows happening at the Kennedy Center, they provide full entertainment and you would always want to keep coming to this place.

f.         For adventure lovers, you can take a hiking tour at Great Falls Park, it has some of the best and spectacular views of the Potomac river. The park is spread over 800 acre of land, it is located just over 14 miles from Washington DC.

g.       The place Mount Vernon is a full day excursion today and the recent additions include an education center and a museum. The place houses varied art galleries and theatres, you can spend some fun time by visiting 500 acre estate of George Washington.

With all the excitement surrounding the history-making new President’s inauguration, it’s a perfect time to learn more about the history and inner-working of the United States government in its capitol, Washington D.C.

Planning a visit to the capitol is an exercise in time management, as there are so many monuments and historic sites to see and so many government tours to attend. Mapping out a list of must-see spots and would-like-to-see spots before leaving home is always a good idea. That list can be used as a guideline for the trip. While you might make a few changes on the fly, you won’t mistakenly forget to visit the Lincoln Memorial if you’re checking your list.

Be sure to pack comfortable walking clothes and shoes for your trip, since Washington D.C. is generally considered a walking city. If you’ll be making the trip with small children, you’ll want to bring a stroller with you. The variety of attractions you’re likely to visit can be too much for little feet, and you’ll all be happier if the tots can coast along in a stroller for part of the day.

Choosing a Washington D.C. hotel isn’t very difficult, since there are many in the vicinity of the Capitol’s most famous landmarks. In a change of pace form the previous two monuments, you’ll see that the FDR Memorial is made of pink granite, rather than white marble, and surrounded by thousands of trees and bushes. A short walk will next bring you to the Korean War Veterans Memorial, which actually shows a larger than life squad of soldiers next to a wall sandblasted with images of those who supported the war efforts.

These four monuments are a great start when taking part in a self-guided walking tour around the city, though there’s much more to see. After walking several miles, you’ll want to head back to your boutique hotel and rest your feet before picking up the touring again the next day!

The Attractions of Washington DC

Just utter the name of Washington DC and you get flashes of the White House, congressmen and the political leaders in your eyes.

Washington DC, founded on the July16, 1790, is the capital of USA and houses the headquarters of all the three divisions of the US federal government. Though named after the first US president George Washington, politics is not the only game played in the Washington DC.     

A much deeper look in the city would assist you in taking the tour of number of attractions in the Washington DC which can leave the tourist asking for more!

Some of the best attraction of Washington DC:

Ford’s Theatre – It was build at the same spot where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. There is also a Ford Theater opened in 1861. It serves both as a theater and a historic spot. The theater has an onsite museum which has large number of historic artifacts.

National Gallery of Art – It is a mesmerizing domain consisting of the artworks from different parts of the world and works by the different US artists. This gallery was established in the year 1937. The adjacent east and west building together house vast collection of pre-20th century Italian, Spanish, European, Flemish, Dutch, British and French artwork by greats like Monet, Titian, Van Dyks, Da Vinci.    

Museums: Museums are the integral part of this great city and is one of the most important attractions. Starting from the big state funded institutions to the small historic houses breathing charm, surely these museums will welcome you to whole array of interesting elements and surprises.

The National Museum of National History houses the dinosaur exhibits apart from the Family Hall of Mammals, the National Museum of American Indians depict the culture, National Building Museum has a good collection of properly preserved collection of the architectural prints, photographic images, material samples, American Art Museum has a good collection of various US artworks, the Smithsonian Castle is the headquarters of the Smithsonian Information  Center which has about 16 museums in the whole complex.     

Political Houses –When you visit the Washington you just can’t resist visiting many important political houses. These include White House which is the official residence of the US President; Jefferson Memorial which is a commemorative monument of Thomas Jefferson, the third US President; US Capitol consisting of the legislative division of the US government: both houses of Representatives and the Senate; Air Force Memorial; Library of Congress and the Pentagon.        
The attractions of Washington DC are numerous and do not end here. You will really do great injustice to your trip if you fail to visit Tidal Basin, Lafayette Square, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal during your trip.

Hotel Washington D.C. stays allows visitors to access all of the free museums, historic neighborhoods and multiple attractions. Considering that this is the city in which you will find the White House, it would hardly be worth a Hotel Washington D.C. stay without visiting The White House Visitors Center, Vietnam War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial. This city is well known for its museums and a Hotel Washington D.C. stay will mean that the traveler is able to visit a museum for virtually all areas of interest, from the Holocaust museum to the Space Exploration museum.

This Washington D.C. Hotel houses the original documents signed by Thomas Jefferson in their lounge. It is one of the more intimate hotels in Washington D.C., and has a more residential feel to it than many of the other top hotels in this city. The building was built in 1923 and is filled with many antiques. The Washington Monument can been seen from rooms 709, 710, 809 and 810. The Henley Park Hotel on Massachusetts Avenue, boast Tudor architecture and is considered to be an elegant and upscale destination for travelers visiting Washington D.C.; this hotel costs as little as $67 per person per night. The Howard Johnson hotel Washington D.C. costs $57, and the list is virtually endless.

If your budget tells you that you can’t afford the $550 per night bill that you might ring up staying in the Jefferson and this puts you off from staying in hotels in Washington D.C., you still have the choice to visit the many attractions of this wonderful city.

There are so many fantastic hotels in Washington D.C. These are not even specifically considered to be budget hotels; most hotels in Washington D.C. are far smarter than their other city counterparts. However just the examples above indicates that there is great value to be found. Leisure visitors benefit from the fact that hotels in Washington D.C. do drop their rates during slow times.

Most Washington D.C. hotels are in the vicinity of important attractions, as Washington is not the huge sprawling metropolis that many other US cities are. It is not necessary to have a car in order to get around, and the nation’s capital taxi drivers are friendly and charge reasonable rates. As most hotels in Washington D.C. are close to museums and other attractions, it is important to wear comfortable walking shoes if you are planning to commute by foot.
