What is the Government Doing to Your Cell Phone?

October 3rd, 2011

twitter.com – MSNBC reported that the Department of Transportation is considering software that, if you reach a certain speed in your car, would disable your cell phone from use. If this isn’t Big Brother, then I don’t know what is. As quickly as it comes out, it’ll be hacked and disabled, so what’s the point? Spend that money on educating the idiots who text and drive and kill people; don’t punish the masses! – youtube.com

This video was recorded using the medium graphics preset. If you have recorded a walkthrough, feel free to post it as a video response!

Can you listen to radio on a cell phone without a Receiver?

June 16th, 2011

Question by mantas1111000 mantas1111000: Can you listen to radio on a cell phone without a Receiver?
I need to travel to Vilnius, but I don’t have a portable radio. Because the entire bus will probably be filled with hopeless nerds/engineers, I want to listen to radio, when we travel. But my phone doesn’t have an FM Receiver.

The thing is, the radio is lithuanian, and those, which broadcast through the Internet, don’t stream that station.

Any way to listen to FM radio on a Sony Ericsson S500i?

No. Try a Walkman. They’re dirt cheap.

Washington State Senate Has Ruled That Drivers Without Cell Phone Headsets Will Be Ticketed

Washington State Senate Has Ruled That Drivers Without Cell Phone Headsets Will Be Ticketed

Cell phones offer us mobility during communication. Headsets enhance this mobility further. Nowadays headsets for cell phone users have become ‘the norm’. Laws in almost all countries have made it mandatory for cell phone users to use headsets while driving. The Washington State Senate has ruled that police will ticket drivers who are either texting or talking on a cell phone without a headset.

Advantages of Using Headsets

First of all headsets improve mobility. Your handset can remain in your pocket while you talk or listen to music with your headset. Your hands are free while using headsets hence headsets are also referred to as hands free.

Secondly you get added privacy while talking calls in crowded public places. The person next to you is also spared from listening to your private conversation. With headsets you hear better and so you shout less. You can listen to music without disturbing the person next to you.

There are two basic families of headsets available in the market today, the wired and wireless versions (Bluetooth).

Within each type, there are a variety of headsets. Any one particular type may not be compatible with all cell phone types or meet the expectations of the customer. Here is a simple breakdown of the types of headsets along with the necessary pros and cons you should consider before buying a particular headset from a store near you or on the internet.

Wired Headsets

The first and oldest family of headset is the ‘wired variety’. These are simply an earpiece and microphone combination at the end of a wire. All cell phone manufacturers make them for their own devices and are often sold as AM products at convenience or corner stores.
The sound quality is good because the signals don’t travel through air that may be affected by external electromagnetic interference. Lastly, they do not need any power source to run, so no charging or batteries are required.

Bluetooth Headsets

These are the more advanced version of headsets which uses Bluetooth technology. The cell phone acts as a Bluetooth transmitter sending signals over a short wave radio frequency. These tend to be more expensive and are often plagued by choppy sound. They even require a separate power source built into them and needs frequent charging. This gives the user more mobility and he does not need to carry his mobile phone on him if he is within the range (10metres max) of Bluetooth enabled phone.

Spokane Realtors and Washington State New Cell Phone Law

Spokane Realtors and Washington State New Cell Phone Law

On July 1, 2008 Washington State’s new ban on cell phone use went into effect. Anyone who has experienced an accident or near accident with someone who was talking on a cell phone while driving is likely to be pleased. It is also illegal to text while driving. Apparently it is difficult to watch the road and the little buttons on a phone at the same time. With this new law Washington has joined four other states (California, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York) in banning their use while driving. Now, Washingtonians must use an ear piece if they must drive and talk on the phone. It is permissible to press the answer button, but that’s all.

While California, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York all have driving and talking on a cell phone as a primary offense, it is only a secondary offense in Washington. A police officer must observe some other driving infraction to give a citation and then may add the cell phone use as an additional charge.

As an interesting coincidence, I was walking my Airedale Terrier for her three mile walk along the river road the other day, two days into the new law becoming effective, and was nearly hit by hit by three different drivers who all happened to be talking on the phone. I had to laugh to myself and say, well if I don’t like their driving I can stay off the sidewalk.

Realtors and other sales people who spend a lot of time driving will feel the effect of this law. The cell phone has become ubiquitous and essential for those who must stay in communication at all times in order to earn a living. Customers do not want to have to wait for information in this day and age.

Cell phone kiosks and wireless stores have been doing blockbuster business in wireless Blue Tooth headsets. Many people wonder what took so long. Why did it take an act of legislature to drive safely and respectfully of other people on the road. I know my wife said I could drive and text a long time ago.

To all of you sales people and realtors, especially you who drive in Spokane Washington selling all that real estate get a wireless headset soon. Otherwise you may have a 1 additional fine to your otherwise ignorable driving offenses. Now all we have to worry about is the cancer causing radio frequencies looped over the ear all day.

Washington state is now enforcing a law regarding cell phones and driving; should people be ticketed?

February 4th, 2011

Question by kelbennett11: Washington state is now enforcing a law regarding cell phones and driving; should people be ticketed?
Starting in July of this year, the state of Washington will issue infractions for driving while using a cell phone. Talking on the phone alone can’t get you pulled over, but it is an additional charge that the officer may add on to primary reason you were pulled over. What are your thoughts on this? Should all states do this?
