Are you frustrated with Congress and your elected officials? You hold the key to change the course of our country.  Let us help you do it! Our fun and informal Skills Clinic will teach you the nuts and bolts of how to take action and arm you with the information you need to amplify your voice in the ongoing battle to hold Congress accountable.  You can make a difference even with your hectic schedule! Our Skills Clinics are part of the Heritage Action Sentinel Program.  We equip our Sentinels to: KNOW the issues.  We have the information you need to understand any policy issue. GROW their Activist skills and networks.  We will work with you one on one. GO out and lead in their communities.   You won’t be alone; we’ve got your back!   We understand your concerns and have put together this great program to help you engage in national politics in an effective and time-efficient manner. This will be a fantastic opportunity to interact with other concerned conservatives from your area and build your relationship with James Quarles, your Heritage Action Regional Coordinator. You will learn valuable skills necessary to help amplify your voice not only in Washington, D.C., but on a local level too! We'll make sense out of the jumble of social media, give you strategies for meeting with and influencing your Congressman, and explain how the Heritage Action Sentinel program can benefit you!  Session Topics include: Print Media Impact:  How to write an effective letter to the editor AND get it published! Understanding and using Social Media: Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube Twitter Training: For new and advanced users! Get started, build, and deploy a Twitter Army Legislative Training: Using the Heritage Action Dashboard and other resources to Hold Congress Accountable. We will also cover how to arrange and plan an effective meeting with your Congressman.   Heritage Action for America is the ACTION arm of the conservative Heritage Foundation. The community is coming together to create the Seattle/King County Clinic Oct. 22 – 25 in KeyArena at Seattle Center. This giant health clinic offers the full range of free dental, eyesight and health care to underserved and vulnerable populations in the region. The effort, involving months of preparation and tens and thousands of volunteers, transforms KeyArena to the largest clinic of its type in Washington State. As many as 4,000 clients are offered by over 1600 professional medical and general support volunteers, providing more than .5 million in healthcare services.

DCSAA Softball Coaches Clinic

On Saturday, June 14, the DCSAA will be holding a free Coaches Clinic led by Tommy Orndorff, Head Coach, Varsity Softball at St. John's Highschool. Coach Orndorff brings over 30 years of Softball Coaching Experience at the High School and Club Levels.  Highlights include:

  • During Orndorff’s 28 years at the helm, Bishop O’Connell teams have won the Catholic League softball championship 21 times.
  • In State Championship play, his teams have compiled a 58-2 record overall – winning 17 Virginia Independent Schools State Championship titles over the past 19 years. 
  • Named Coach of the Year for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area by The Washington Post in 1986 (22-1) and 1996 (23-0), by the Arlington County Better Sports Club in 1991 (21-1), and by The Journal Newspapers in 1994 (25-3).  He has also been named Virginia Independent Schools State Coach of the Year 16 of the past 18 seasons by the Virginia Independent Schools Softball Association.
  • A perennial power nationally the past 20 years, his Bishop O’Connell program reached new heights the past two springs – posting a 57-2 record overall and finishing both seasons ranked 5th in the country in The USA Today/NFCA  Scholastic Fastpitch Softball Final Polls.
  • Orndorff will be inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame in November 2014 at the Amateur Softball Association’s (ASA) National Convention in Reno, Nevada. 

Upon registration, you will be asked to provide the number of years you have been coaching girls softball. The Clinic will cater to the experience level of the attending coaches.

Extreme Recess Yoga and Dance Clinic!

On January 26, 2013, Dreams for Kids will be hosting a Yoga Event! Join Extreme Recess for this day of relaxing day of learning yoga positions and exercises!

What: Dreams for Kids Extreme Recess has set up a yoga event for kids with physical and developmental disibilities. The event will be led by Tina Cody, who Dreams for Kids would like to extend a huge thank you to! After the first hour of yoga, a salsa dance clinic will be taught by Catherine Ayla!

When: January 26th, 2013 from 4 pm to 6 pm

Where: Recreational Gym at Marymount University, 2807 North Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207

Dreams for Kids would also like to extend a huge thank you to Marymount University for hosting the event!

Participants: This event is open to children age 4-24 of ALL ABILITIES.

NOTE: Please only sign up one parent per child. That parent must email us with security information when we email you, or you will not be able to attend the event. Please check all emails from Dreams for Kids!

WHY: Extreme Recess allows this often isolated group of children to engage in the types of physical activities that other children their age experience daily. Through Extreme Recess's White House Tour, children with physical and developmental disabilities will be inspired through this once in a lifetime event. The empowerment and self-respect learned at the clinic will carry over into the children’s lives at home, in the classroom, in the community and will help them realize that their disability need not hinder them from reaching their dreams. Extreme Recess celebrates the unique ability in all children and helps them turn the adversity in their lives into opportunity. With over 12,000 children currently living with disabilities in the Washington, D.C. area, it is vital that we spread awareness about the importance and power that athletics can play in the lives of children with disabilities.
