The rock band The Offspring, among several other excellent groups, performed Saturday, 16 May 2009 at the DC101 Chili Cookoff at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. Dexter Holland, The Offspring’s lead, rolled a piano out for one song. I want to know the name of that song.

Why did Obama talk different during the NAACP meeting?

December 15th, 2013

Question by A American: Why did Obama talk different during the NAACP meeting?
Did anyone but me notice Obama had a different tone as he spoke. He tried to sound black. Was he just patronizing the crowd?

Or was it just Obama just being Obama when you are in Greece to as the Romans do?

Best answer:

Answer by Beverly
You think people always sound exactly the same? I seem to recall Bush pouring on the Texas drawl when it suited him. Did you whine about that? I doubt it. I also doubt he picked up that accent at the Bush estate in Rhode Island…

10 points, Why do people think the government adopted a laissez faire policy during the Great Depression?

August 22nd, 2013

Question by bored: 10 points, Why do people think the government adopted a laissez faire policy during the Great Depression?
Many people think the free market caused the depression and that governments let this happen.

Government intervention prolonged the depression.

Both Hoover and Roosevelt tried everything, taxes, tariffs, price fixing, you name it.

The free market is not to be feared, government is.

What were the defenses of Washington DC like during the Gettysburg Campaign?

August 13th, 2013

Question by Brian: What were the defenses of Washington DC like during the Gettysburg Campaign?
During a discussion of the Battle of Gettysburg, I came to wonder what Lee would have faced if he had defeated Meade and marched on DC. I know that the city was essentially impregnable by the end of the war, but how thick were the defenses on the north side of the city in July 1863? I tried browsing the internet for an answer, but haven’t had any luck. Any sources on this topic would be most appreciated!

Answer by Diogenes
DC was designed from day one to be a defensible capital.
And it was surrounded by forts that were within gunshot of each other
so that if one fell to the enemy it could be shelled by the adjoining two.
