Are there any prerequisite skills or experience required?

What specific skills are taught?
The class introduces techniques used by professional improvisers to hone their craft. Listening, working intuitively, resisting the urge to “edit” oneself and others, building upon team members’ ideas (”Yes and…”) and out of the box thinking skills are at the core of the training. Customized curricula can place emphasis upon specific goals, such as team building, group dynamics, creativity, presentation skills and more.

Who should take the class?
The class is ideal for anyone in business who interacts with people. Whether it’s presenting to a group, working with a team, cold calling, sales visits, or ideation sessions, the class can enhance the skills of the individual and the productivity of the group. Classes are particularly popular with people in marketing, sales, law, advertising and finance.

Am I going to be put on the spot?
We understand. Nobody likes to be put on the spot. Classes are taught in a very positive and supportive atmosphere. We will help you expand your skill sets, but you will never be asked to do anything you are uncomfortable doing.

Who teaches the class?
Classes are taught by CCL’s highly experienced team of facilitators. Each instructor is a professional improviser who regularly applies his or her craft in NYC’s longest running comedy revue. Program Coordinator is Paul Zuckerman, PhD, Executive Producer of CCL, who has over 25 years of experience working with Fortune 500 companies as a trainer, consultant and focus group moderator.

Testimonials

  • "Aside from having a tremendous amount of fun, the improv workshop was perfect for team building!"
  • "Every single one of the participants came up to me afterwards to say how much they enjoyed it. The way you weaved performance, humor and getting to know each other better was the key, and made it so helpful and enjoyable."
  • "Utterly fantastic! The team hasn't stopped talking about improv all week."
  • "Those exercises and improvisational games and discussions are great for business creativity, idea generation, presentation skills and, as one of my classmates said, "I feel like I'm going to be better with clients now, because I'm more confident in my ability to think on my feet."
  • "I'm a confident presenter generally, but with complex ideas to explain, sometimes I tend to speed through explanations. Last week, with I4B fresh on my mind, I caught myself speeding up during an important presentation. So I imagined myself in front of the classroom, paused for a breath, and then proceeded calmly and confidently — and now the agency I was presenting to is a step closer to working with me."

Are there any successful agencies near maryland or in maryland that have had famous actors or models?

December 5th, 2013

Question by Karla: Are there any successful agencies near maryland or in maryland that have had famous actors or models?
I live in maryland and i’m 16, almost 17. I convinced my parents into giving me a chance in acting or modeling. I feel i have the ability to become either or even both, but i don’t want it to be a scam and was hoping to have a good agency so i can actually have the chance to be famous although i just live in maryland and i don’t know anyone that’s really famous from here. so i was hoping there was a real and successful agency like in washington, maryland, or virginia!

Best answer:

Answer by Katrina E.
The best way to get an agent is through networking so talk to your acting teachers/coaches and directors you’ve worked with and other actors too. See if anyone is willing to refer you to a talent agent. You can’t just go out and hire an agent. If you want to try blind submissions, you can find lists of some legitimate agents at the SAG-AFTRA website or at backstage.com:

http://www.backstage.com/resources/search/agent/
http://www.sagaftra.org/agency-relations/sag-franchised-agents
http://www.sagaftra.org/agency-relations/aftra-franchised-agents

Some tips for checking out agencies:

Legitimate talent agents are paid on commission – they get a percentage of what their clients make. Legitimate agents don’t ask for payment up front. And it’s extremely rare for a legitimate agent to approach an actor first.

Look at their website – does it say they are a talent agency or do they talk about talent management, acting workshops, or other services they offer to help a career? Legitimate talent agents don’t offer other services or package deals or the like. They make their money by finding their clients auditions not by charging fees or providing other services.

Do internet searches with the company name and “scam” or ‘ripoff” and see what comes up. Now even legitimate companies will have complaints – the question is how many and what kind.

Check their listing at the Better Business Bureau

Do an internet search for news articles, photos and the like and see how well know/publicized they are in the industry.

Check the International Movie Database (IMDb). You’ll need the Pro version though (or use the 2 week free trial). IMDb is a database of movies and television shows, and every human involved in them. It is not 100% accurate, but it can give a big picture view. If someone is not on IMDb at all, they are probably not going to advance your career much. And with the Pro version you can see an agents/agency’s client list (or at least those with TV/film roles since IMDb doesn’t list commercials or theater work). See who is really using the agency.

Talk to acting teachers/coaches, directors and other actors and find out what reputation the agency has in the industry.

The Secret to a Successful Hotel. What the Worlds Most Famous Hotels Have in Common

August 8th, 2011

The Secret to a Successful Hotel. What the Worlds Most Famous Hotels Have in Common

Just some of the main reasons why a particular hotel becomes famous could be due to its location and its design. This is particularly evident with newer hotels like the Burj al Arab in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Whilst the name of the hotel might not be instantly recognizable the fact that the hotel is built on an artificial island and is shaped like a giant boats sail makes it arguably the worlds most distinctive looking hotel. And being 321 metres high certainly adds to its world famous status.

And therefore size could well be important if the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is anything to go by. With in excess of 6000 rooms it goes to show that good things dont just come in small packages.

So if location, location, location really is vital and size really does count then another reason why a hotel becomes world famous could well be because of its historic value. In fact, who had heard of the Watergate complex in Washington DC until events of 1967 and the subsequent political scandal involving Richard Nixon?

The truth is hotels and successful businesses of all types often share one similar trait and this is they are great at communication. For hotels this is particularly important has the running of a hotel is an extremely time consuming and difficult job. Hotel communication is therefore vital to ensure hotel staff, suppliers and visitors are kept secure and safe in a clean and friendly environment.

Hotel health and safety and hotel communication has been made easier in recent years through the use of modern 2 way radio and hotel radios available from leading manufacturers like HYT, Motorola and Kenwood mean that hotel safety and hotel communications is quicker and easier than ever before.

Successful hotels are successful because people use them time and time again and recommend them to others. Successful hotels do this because their staff and suppliers almost blend into the background of a hotel leaving their visitors to enjoy their facilities and surroundings in peace of quiet.

From chambermaids and bell boys, hotel radios are a great way for staff throughout a hotel to stay in touch over a wide area and with no call charges. Hotel communication also benefits kitchen staff, waiters and waitresses as well as receptionists, maintenance staff and indeed anyone working in the hotel or complex.

In a time when businesses throughout the world are struggling, trying to gain a competitive advantage is vital and for hotels, getting their hotel communications right allows them to do this.

Not all hotels can be as famous as the taj mahal but all hotels can improve their hotel safety and hotel communication for less money than they may think.

Apex Radio Systems Ltd are the Hotel Communication Experts and details of their Hotel Radios and Hotel Communication Radios can be found by visiting the Apex Radio Systems Ltd Online Shop.
