AK State Society Brunch and Qugruk Forum w/ Fran Ulmer

July 5th, 2013

AK State Society Brunch and Qugruk Forum w/ Fran Ulmer
Event on 2013-07-20 11:00:00

This event is free and open to all.  Reserve your spot now, as seating may be limited. (Your reservation will also help us ensure that we don't run out of food.)

After 30 minutes of brunch and casual conversation, we'll open the Qugruk forum and hear from a guest speaker for 10-15 minutes, followed by questions and answers from the audience.

This is an Alaska-casual event: jeans, Carhartts, fleece and XtraTufs welcomed.

This month's guest will be Fran Ulmer, the presidentially appointed Chair of the United States Arctic Research Commission.  As Alaskans know well, Ms. Ulmer has also been, at various times, the chancellor of UAA; the Lt. Governor of Alaska; an Alaska state legislator; and the mayor of Juneau. Under the banner, "What Happens in the Arctic doesn't stay in the Arctic," Commissioner Ulmer will address Arctic shipping, research, climate change, and oil-spill prevention and response–all followed by questions and answers from the audience.

Mr. Henry's is located between the Capitol South and Eastern Market metro stations, on the southeast corner of Seward Square. Bus stops for the 32/34/36, 90/92, and Union-Station-to-Navy-Yard circulator routes are relatively close by.

(Why Qugruk? The qugruk, or tundra swan — like many AKSS members — regularly flies between Alaska and Washington, D.C.)

at Mr Henry’s

Washington, United States
