Professional Speaker and Expert Storyteller Reveals Secrets to Great Storytelling and Getting Speaking Gigs

Dennis Bauer teaches how to soar with your story.

Poulsbo WA, September 6, 2016 – Get your story heard, for pay or passion. Professional speaker Dennis Bauer will share tips on becoming a better storyteller or even launching a speaking career from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, September 22 at Poulsbo City Hall, 200 NE Moe Street, Poulsbo. The event, sponsored by Professionally Speaking Toastmasters, is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Bauer is an award-winning speaker and author of the Amazon best-seller “Fumes and a Prayer: How to Live at the Edge and Still Be Home for Dinner.” In addition to being an expert storyteller, he teaches the art of storytelling in his popular “Storytelling 101” workshops.

He will speak on two topics: “Get Paid for Your Passion: the Nuts ‘n’ Bolts You Need to Get on Stage” and “Ten Keys to Super Power Speaking: How to Soar with Your Story!”

“We are thrilled to have Dennis Bauer share his unique insights from his experience of progressing from Toastmaster to professional speaker,” Professionally Speaking’s vice president of education John Villesvik said. “Visitors are most welcome to attend and learn from Dennis, and about Toastmasters.”

Toastmasters clubs offer a self-paced educational program through which members shed their fear of public speaking while getting organizational and leadership skills that help them progress in their professional and personal lives. Cost for membership is less than that of a latte per week.

Professionally Speaking is an advanced club for Toastmasters who have completed their first ten speeches at a regular club. More than a dozen regular clubs meet locally. To find one near you, visit http://d32.toastmastersdistricts.org/Division_B.html

Bauer plans to surprise his audience: “Surprise number one is that 95 per cent of getting on stage is not about your speech. You can be an award-winning speaker with a great speech, but without this one thing, no one will ever hear you!” The most important work, whether speaking for pay or for passion, takes place off the stage. He’ll share what that work is, along with seven of the most important lessons he learned on the way to becoming a paid speaker who commands high fees for speaking to audiences of hundreds.

Great Guitar Songs For a Band

August 10th, 2016

Like all great guitar based bands you need some great guitar songs but what exactly makes a great guitar song? Well there are a number of aspects such as an irresistible riff, a solo or jam that still impresses even after several times of listening to it and a final power chord that blows you away, causing you to replay the song time and time again. It is these aspects that make up some of the greatest songs such as Purple Haze – Jimmy Hendrix or A Hard Day’s Night – The Beatles.

It is within the notes of the song that determine the greatest guitar moments, which is evident in songs such as the above as well as Johnny B. Goode – Chuck Berry and Brown Sugar – The Rolling Stones. The notes of these songs portray a mixture of desire, fury, despair and joy but they do it in such a way that makes you feel all of these emotions at once. A great guitar song for a band has the need to say something new and to say it loud. This is because rock has a sound associated with impendence and taking a stand and the guitar is essential to undertaking this.

Great guitar songs have the ability to combine a mixture of styles and pull it off perfectly and it is great guitar songs, such as the ones that I have previously mentioned that give not only new and emerging bands the ability to gain an ear for music, but it also allows individuals too as well. It is through listening intently to songs that allows you to be able to distinguish between notes.

No matter how advanced you are with your guitar playing there will be some great guitar songs out there that are perfect for you, one example of this can be seen within the number of great guitar songs out there for guitar beginners.

Back In the USSR – The Beatles, Suffragette City – Bowie and Basket Case – Green Day as well as Molly’s Chamber – Kings of Leon are all prime examples of great guitar songs that are perfect for bands to play and learn from. Although all of these songs are pretty simple where the guitar work is concerned they are all memorable for the effect they had on the music world.

There are some impressive songs around that are relatively easy to play as they only consist of a few basic chords but by no means does this take anything away from the songs; they are still highly entertaining and well known. Green Day and The Beatles are two examples of this, songs by these artists are considered to be simple and easy to learn, making them the perfect starting point for bands. Talking of starting points for bands, Mr Tambourine Man – Bob Dylan, Wish you Were Here – Pink Floyd and Viva La Vida – Coldplay are also great guitar songs, perfect for new and up and coming band.

All of the above examples of music are all very diverse songs and they all have a difference when it comes to the levels of difficulty associated with playing them but nothing can doubt the fact that they are all great guitar songs.

It is through learning songs such as these that you are able to learn about correct pace and rhythm, which will help you advance onto more complex songs and of course will help you write your own.

Bandjammer is for people who want to have some fun, learning to play great rock songs. Our unique teaching methods support you every step of the way, for both Lead and Rhythm guitar.

Good Food, Great Drinks Await at Lancashire

June 28th, 2014

And, why wouldn’t it come? It is after all Lancashire’s historic, traditional food. Long back, mill workers (especially the women) would leave the stuff on slow cooking and move out for work. On their arrival in the evening, they would put down the pot and eat the stuff. It was cheap and nutritious and thus, a favourite of all. Time changed but Lancashire Hotpot never lost its sheen. Even today, a few restaurants try to cook this food, exactly in the conditions they were made in the earlier days. So, if you or any of your known-ones are here in Lancashire, don’t miss out on this delicious dish which is usually made out of lamb meat and regional spices.

Lancashire, besides its scenic beauty and surroundings, is also known for its pubs and warm & welcoming locals. There are some really good restaurants, pubs and hotels here, so even accommodation is never an issue when you are in this part of England. But, I must admit that it is good food in Lancashire that brings me here, time and again. I in fact encourage (even push) my people (usually friends) to visit this wonderful place and its pubs. Once in a pub, you are welcomed by some great food stuffs and an entire line up of wines and beers to taste and drink. Come and lose all your pain in your brain! Lancashire is a place to be, whenever you feel like escaping the boring office life. And, do make sure that you go through some information online about this place and its innumerable attractions (shall I say, breathtaking attractions?) so that you don’t miss out on any great one.

The transport facility is great here; so you can always move from one part of Lancashire to another. And, then, there are so many restaurants and hotels that you shouldn’t worry about getting a room. If you are taking your family with you, do make sure that you book your rooms in advance so that you don’t have to face that last minute inconvenience.

Summarising all the information here:

If in Lancashire, do check out Lancashire Hotpot. Lancashire is known for its good food. Good Food Lancashire!

You can come here for both your short-term and long-term vacations

There are plenty of restaurants and hotels. But, still book your accommodation before you land here.

It’s not simply a matter of keeping things local. It’s knowing everything about the provenance of our food. At The Clog and Billycock, we ensure Good food Lancashire, using authenticate ingredients for the dishes inspired by Nigel Haworth. Come to Pubs Lancashire, Come to The Clog and Billycock.
