The Company Obama Keeps

May 17th, 2012

What are we to make of Barack Obama? Most of us think he makes a good impression: he is friendly, likeable, intelligent and courteous. His speeches are often inspiring and eloquent. He remains calm and controlled under verbal fire, and he seems to do so without much effort. A friend and fellow faculty member at the University of Chicago, Cass Sunstein, describes him as an excellent listener, very reasonable and willing to go where the evidence takes him. All of this sounds most admirable.

Nevertheless, there has emerged within the last several weeks an increasing sense of discomfort with Mr. Obama, and not just because of his political views. Of course those views do matter. For one thing, his overall voting record is extremely liberal, a fact which makes many of us uneasy. For another, some of his recent remarks suggest either a troubling ignorance of basic economics or a willingness under the banner of “fairness” to punish productivity with higher taxes.

Whatever economic and social policy positions he declares as a presidential candidate, it is clear that Mr. Obama lives in the far left camp of American politics. His voting record and economic policies are likely to keep him there.

But what has emerged in the last few months as most troubling about this very interesting man has more to do with who he is personally than what he believes politically. Based on what we have learned recently about a number of persons close to him, we are reminded of the old saw that a man may be judged by the company he keeps. The most notable company Mr. Obama has kept for the last twenty years is, of course, his pastor and father-figure, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, an unusually hateful race monger and America basher, and a man whom Mr. Obama and his wife Michelle have chosen to guide their children’s religious education. Less prominent, but still making headlines, is Mr. Obama’s relationship with a man he describes as his mentor and friend, Tony Rezko, who is now being tried in federal court on charges of financial and political wrongdoing. A third person to whom Mr. Obama is obviously close is his very accomplished wife, Michelle Obama, whose black racism and hostility toward America, dating back to her college days, has lately attracted attention in the press. Finally, Mr. Obama has had an ongoing relationship with former radical Weather Underground leader, William Ayers, who only a few years ago said he wished he had set off more bombs in his radically destructive youth than he in fact did.

It appears from this list that Mr. Obama is quite comfortable with persons in whom anger is a prominent dynamic, or criminal impulses are overtly expressed, or both. In fact, it would not be a stretch to conclude that he is even attracted to such persons, not just comfortable with them, given his conscious choices of wife, pastor and friends. Your average political candidate, for example, would probably not count among his friends an ex-domestic terrorist or an indicted federal defendant, nor listen on Sundays to hate speech in church, nor have a wife who angrily claims she has been victimized by American society, especially if she is highly educated in two elite universities and highly paid for her work in a third. In fact, given what we know about the way the human mind works, what would be a stretch would be any claim that Mr. Obama’s relationships with this many angry and/or destructive people are purely coincidental, though we can expect his supporters to make that very claim in his defense. Indeed, from a psychodynamic perspective, his tolerance of, let alone his affection for, persons who are enduringly angry almost guarantees that he has his own anger “issues.”

So, does he actually have such issues? Behind his calm, cordial and well controlled persona, is Mr. Obama an angry man? Is there any evidence to that effect in his personal history? Would he describe himself as significantly angry or hostile?

And anyway, does any of this matter? It should. We should know by now that a candidate’s character is not irrelevant to the office he seeks. We should also know that an undercurrent of anger is not irrelevant to character. It would seem beyond coincidence that many of the most prominent people in Mr. Obama’s life are either verifiably angry or have antisocial attitudes, or both. This is one of the reasons why many Americans have become uncomfortable with him. There is something wrong with the picture of Mr. Obama as we get to know more about him and about the company he keeps.

Obama Tougher On Marijuana Than Bush – Oaksterdam Raid

April 30th, 2012

Via Mother Jones: “…agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency, US Marshals Service, and Internal Revenue Service served a warrant on Oaksterdam University, a trade school in Oakland, California, for medical marijuana growers. Local pot activist Richard Lee, the founder of “America’s first cannabis college,” was reportedly detained briefly at his home as the feds began to confiscate documents and pot from the school and a dispensary affiliated with him…The Oaksterdam raid isn’t a surprise considering the Obama administration’s about-face on medical marijuana. The president campaigned on the promise that he’d stop federal raids on medical marijuana operations that were in compliance with state laws, a vow that Attorney General Eric Holder repeated after the election. But then the Obama administration raided more than 100 dispensaries in its first three years and is now poised to outpace the Bush administration’s crackdown record…”.* Ana Kasparian, Cenk Uygur and Ben Mankiewicz discuss. * motherjones.com www.huffingtonpost.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. President Obama in his remarks at Osawatomie High School in Osawatomie, Kansas said, this is not just another political debate. This is the defining issue of our time. This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class, and for all those who are fighting to get into the middle class. Because what’s at stake is whether this will be a country where working people can earn enough to raise a family, build a modest savings, own a home, secure their retirement.

Obama Want to be Global Thinkers

April 28th, 2012

Obama Want to be Global Thinkers

Article by xia zihui

According to the British “Daily Telegraph” reported on August 22, 2008 Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, wrote recently that his former boss in 2012 be re-elected do not care. For a long time, every politician wants to seize power, the president’s re-election campaign will make a plan several years ahead will be. But Obama did recently have hinted, he seems to really not care whether the re-election, perhaps he wants to be the next president, and then be a “global thinker.”

2008, elected the most classic moment in the history of American politics

Obama was elected president in 2008, created the American political history, the most classic moment. 2004 Senate election, he almost could not see any objection, even though he had no administrative experience. And even the White House, the challenge and pressure also. Obama running for president to win two reasons: the strength of his biography and his speeches before. There is no doubt that his withdrawal will make any surprise.

He has tired of politics

But now for Barack Obama, the ruling has become more difficult, there are signs that he was tired of politics. His interference in the so-called “mosque” problem is an example. In fact, this issue does not require his involvement in the “9.11″ attack on the Islamic Community Centre Centre for the construction of the existence of multiple obstacles, there is no political advantage to Obama. His discourse is the lack of real sympathy with the Americans, only considered how to solve the problem, never mind revealing their political shortcomings.

There is no doubt that Obama certainly received a proposal for the holiday by attending church and often acts such as, closer contact with ordinary Americans. But Obama seems to prefer the secularists in accordance with European guidelines for action, as in Martha Vineyard vacation, to send his daughter to the United States the most advanced private school and so on. Obama did not fall into self-doubt, he always believed his own virtue, that it would not be illogical to question the motives of his element. Now, his discourse more and more people believe that those who do not share his point of view is foolish and paranoid.

Martha’s Vineyard last week before leaving, Obama took three days to raise campaign funds and support the Democratic candidate for mid-term elections. Milwaukee, he said: “Do not succumb to fear, let us hope.” This information has played a role, but this seems not working. The U.S. is in recession, the unemployment rate remains close to 10%, condemned Bush’s rhetoric began to gradually lose market.

Looking at the world after the United States as a “world citizen”

But Obama is still in top condition, many people still support him, he did not fall into the dirty political reality, and no annoying opponents. For Obama, his presidency is the most satisfying moment of speaking to foreign countries, in Strasbourg, France expression of America’s arrogance and contempt, in Cairo, the Muslim world reached out to the “olive branch”, in Norway to accept Nobel Peace Award.

2008 in Berlin, Obama portraying himself as a “citizen of the world.” He collapse of the “American exceptionalism” cornerstone discard the narrow patriotism, he thinks that we are living in the world after the United States. Few Americans see beyond their own president, but Obama may be one of them. In 2008, Obama is showing a dirty political campaign, the lack of interest.

Carried out with Hillary’s election to the difficult times, he almost withdrew from the Democratic primaries, so the time to decide; in the fight against McCain, he developed a campaign plan, and refused to deviate from the plan. Fortunately, McCain’s support in the polls plummeted, gave Obama a relatively comfortable victory. Obama is the first African-American U.S. president, a successful writer, multimillionaire, and outside the United States won the acclaim of the people.

Unlikely to give up the opportunity for re-election in 2012

It seems also not sure whether Obama will participate in the 2012 general election. “Daily Telegraph” in the Washington bureau chief said the man sitting in the Oval Office, ready to serve the world after the United States after the presidential role. While Obama is unlikely to give up the opportunity for re-election in 2012, but it is speculated that Obama’s post-American world in the post-presidential role is likely to be a global thinker, in a series of political compromises and the necessary arrangements, the Republican Party successor, will replace him in the White House.

New York Times Turns on Obama – Can Flyover Country Be Far Behind?

April 26th, 2012

New York Times Turns on Obama – Can Flyover Country Be Far Behind?

The new test of liberal political ideology seems to be, not whether you favor Obama’s health care plan, but how long it takes you to realize what a disaster it is.

The American people were, as usual, first out of the gate to demonstrate their common-sense conservatism.  Although a slim majority voted for Obama in November, a growing preponderance has been telling pollsters they disapprove of the President and his handling of health care.   On Sunday, Rasmussen reported that Obama had reached a new low in their Presidential Approval Index, with health care one of his lowest-rated issues.

Like a teacher indulging a failing student’s pleas to find a way to give him extra points on his test, the Congressional Budget Office has spent all summer admonishing Obama for presenting legislation that will be more expensive than advertised, produce no savings, and yield expanding and unsustainable deficits for the next 10 years.  (“Now, Barry, I’ve already given you all the credit I can-next time you’ll just have to try harder.”)

The Mayo Clinic, which Obama cites as a model for cost-cutting measures, called the Medicare payment model proposed by Congress a “catastrophe.”

Seven state medical associations banded together with private medical societies and two previous AMA presidents in a letter to the President opposing the legislation.  The American Hospital Association is imploring hospital directors to counter Congress’s bill, as are specialty associations such as the American College of Physicians.

John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal cataloging the myriad flaws in Democrats’ proposal.

After Obama insulted the Postal Service in his quest for a bill, the National Association of Postal Supervisors wrote Obama a letter expressing “our collective disappointment that you chose to use the Postal Service as a scapegoat …  [I]t was a kick to the chest to have you take a shot at a group of federal employees who are working hard every day to support this country.”

Pseudo-moderate network CNN recently chronicled “Five Freedoms You’d Lose in Health Care Reform,” including the freedom to negotiate details of your plan, cut costs by living healthier, choose a high-deductible plan, keep your current plan, and select your doctors.

The Associated Press fact-checked Obama’s claims and called him out for continuing to tell the same lies: e.g., if you like your health insurance, you can keep it-the implication being that you can keep it for as long as your employer and insurance company would otherwise have offered it without government health care, which is outlawed in Congress’s plan.

The Washington Post, no friend to conservatives, has been barraging readers with columns opposing ObamaCare.  Columnist David Hilzenrath affirmed that the administration would not be able to ensure that employees can keep the plans they have now.  Martin Feldstein explained that the 85% of Americans who now have insurance would pay higher taxes and receive fewer services.  Maya MacGuineas ridiculed the administration’s pledge that it can add an expensive new health care plan covering millions more Americans that will cost no extra and actually alleviate the budget deficit.

The Post’s editorial board also reminded the administration of the CBO’s harsh projections and warned him not to treat these lightly.  In a separate editorial, they scorned Democrats’ stubborn, mindless fixation on a public option.

Obama’s own Hyde Park doctor suggests that Congress’s legislation is worthless and adds of his patient, “I’m not sure he really understands what we face in primary care.”

In the workers’ paradise to our north, the current and incoming presidents of the Canadian Medical Association recently bemoaned the failures of Canada’s universal health care system, calling it “sick,” “precarious,” and “imploding,” and urged Canadian doctors to support free market reforms to the system.

The artist of the Obama “Joker” poster, Palestinian socialist and Dennis Kucinich supporter Firas Alkhateeb, admitted, “[Y]ou had all of these people who basically saw him as the second coming of Christ.  From my perspective, there wasn’t much substance to him.”

Air America host Christiane Brown decried Obama’s reversal of his promise not to bar negotiation for lower drug prices, then purred, “He’s such a charming liar, though.  He’s such a nice guy when he lies like that.”

On Sunday, Senator Joe Lieberman, who caucuses with Democrats, said he’s changed his mind on proposed legislation and urges postponing it until the economy recovers.

Now The New York Times has gotten on the bandwagon; you might say they finally have some “skin in the game.”  Times reporter David Pear reported a few days ago that there is, after all, a legitimate basis for elderly Americans’ fear that legislation will lead to rationing of health care.

Paul Krugman criticized the President’s priorities, belittled his dwindling ability to inspire confidence, and lamented that “his speeches and op-eds still read as if they were written by a committee.”

Bob Herbert scolded Obama for not explaining why a gargantuan new government program is in our country’s interest in the middle of a recession: “Many sane and intelligent people who voted for Mr. Obama… have legitimate concerns about the timing of this health reform initiative…  [He] has not been at all clear about how the reform that is coming will rein in runaway costs…  [P]eople are starting to lose faith in the president.”

I’m glad the Times is finally starting to see the light on Obama’s executive inexperience and his disastrous agenda.  Maybe now millions of Middle Americans who hang on Krugman and Herbert’s every word will develop more confidence in expressing their opposition at all those town hall meetings I keep hearing about.

Obama Independents and the 2004 Presidential Election

April 21st, 2012

Check out these Obama images:

Obama Independents and the 2004 Presidential Election
Obama

Nearly half of all Obama Independents were not Democratic voters in 2004.

President Obama won more swing Independents than Sen. McCain in 2008. McCain Independents were primarily Bush voters in 2004, but Obama Independents are more complex. Nearly half were not Kerry voters in 2004—31% voted for Bush or someone else, and 17% didn’t vote.

These graphics are from our recent report, "2012 Showdown: Battle for the Obama Independents."

2008 exit poll data reveals startling new findings. Many analysts lump all Independents together, when in fact there are two very distinct groups of Independent voters: those who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 (“Obama Independents”) and those who voted for John McCain (“McCain Independents”). The Obama Independents are the real heart of the contest for 2012. If President Obama wins the bulk of the Obama Independents, he’ll be reelected; but if the Republican nominee can peel off enough votes, he’ll be number 45.
