Improv is a lot different than acting from a script. However, if you want to be a good actor, improv is extremely helpful. I can’t stress that enough. I would definitely take an improv class there. Especially because they are an improv troupe. They know what they are doing and they have experience. If you get good enough they might even ask you to join. I would also recommend taking a variety of acting classes that have to do with what type of acting you are interested in. I did a quick search and found some acting schools near DC:
