Learn to Play Guitar in a Band

August 9th, 2016

Playing a guitar as part of a band can do wonders for you. The reason that I say this comes down to the fact playing guitar not only builds your skills and techniques, but it also builds your confidence when it comes to the limit of your own abilities. Plus, it is a great way to impress your friends! You have two options when it comes to doing this; you can either learn to play rhythm or lead guitar but if you’ve never attempted to play guitar before just where do you start?

Both rhythm and lead guitar have difference aspects to master but when you are starting out as a beginner you need to learn the same basics for both before you go on to master the techniques associated with one particular one. In my opinion however it is very worthwhile, especially when you are playing guitar in a band to master both lead and rhythm guitar. When it comes to how you learn to play the guitar it can often be a daunting task but don’t worry there is plenty of help along the way.

The guitar is a very versatile instrument, the reason for this comes down to the fact it can be used in a wide variety of styles of music, this could be anything from death metal to rock or country or even classical music. In fact guitars can actually be used in pretty much any style of music. Also the guitar is considered to be one of the more approachable instruments; this is of course when you master the basics. The basics of guitar could take you months or even years to master depending on how often you practice and how quickly you pick up the skills. Once you have got the basics sorted it should be noted that you will need formal instruction at some point of your guitar tuition to really tighten up your skills.

Some of the most important basics that you can pick up is learning about cords. So to start off with what you should be aiming to do is learn songs that utilize single notes or power chords. What this will do is help you build finger strength, dexterity and familiarity with the guitar. Also to help you grasp the concept of chords it is also a good idea to tune your guitar. The reason for this is it will not only help you’re playing sound better but it will also give you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with which string and fret combinations correspond with which notes.

There is now a lot of help available when it comes to learning how to play the guitar. One example of this comes in the form Internet tuition, which is a very effective way of picking up the guitar skills that you need to make it in a band. Internet tuition involves playing along with an instructor who is demonstrating what you need to do in video format. This is effective as the song is broken down into various different stages and for each stage there is a unique video; these stages are; song structure, the chords, sound & rhythm, song intro, verse one, chorus, intro, verse, chorus, verse two & chorus, middle eight. This is a great way to learn as you can truly master a song when it is broken down in such a way. Sites that offer this form of tuition are one of the most effective methods when it comes to learning and honing guitar skills to be able to play in a band.

With the right tuition and plenty of practice you will be able to learn songs inside out and best of all you will learn and master the all important chord changes, time signatures and scales. As you rehearse more and more you will also find that you will be able to add variation to the songs that you are learning, which will then move you onto the next stage of playing guitar in a band, which is writing your own songs of course!

Bandjammer is for people who want to have some fun, learning to play great rock songs. Our unique teaching methods support you every step of the way, for both Lead and Rhythm guitar.

The Tragic Thrills

“My aim is usually to be earnest and now have integrity,” says Zach Porter, primary songwriter associated with transcendent pop-rock quintet The Tragic Thrills. “once I write songs because of this musical organization, we question every term because I want to verify all things are honest.”

The quintet is composed of experienced musicians with nationwide and international touring experience, and effective track documents with both major and independent labels. The band has toured with Twin Forks, Augustana and Pigpen Theater Co. Along with Zach Porter, the musical organization includes Cameron Quiseng (bass), Chris Morrison (lead guitar), Ans Gibson (drums), and Gabe Rudner (keyboard). With all the Tragic Thrills, the musical organization users break from their legacies to rally behind the poetic and irreverently intimate tracks Porter has crafted. Emboldened by the fresh begin, the inventors took the reins to steer their fate. They self-funded their self-titled debut, and, enamored with all the slight genius manufacturing on Mat Kearney’s Young like, handpicked producer Jason Lehning.

It’s a bold method to introduce a brand new band, but that move keeps in the vibrant emotionality packed inside group’s moniker. “The name The Tragic Thrills embodies a sense of what I owe. Not the things I owe to anyone, precisely what it’ll simply take for me personally discover long lasting hell it’s I’m searching for in life,” Porter reveals.

For Porter, love pulled him off the music company treadmill and brought him back to soulful imaginative authenticity. “Meeting my girlfriend changed every thing,” he confides. “In the past, being in a fruitful musical organization ended up being the crucial thing on the planet to me—I was prepared to do whatever it took to make it.. Now I’m able to write in a manner that my aspirations had stopped me from prior to. ”

The musical organization recently signed to Washington Square, this new Razor & Tie imprint. The Tragic Thrills debut is sublimely modern with skyward, atmospheric anthemics tastefully balanced by poignant and quaint details likes stately cello, crystalline piano, and shimmering guitars. From this expansive backdrop, Porter sings his powerfully confessional words with rawness and urgency.

Throughout the record album Porter’s lyric writing is the truth; it is blunt and pent-up but bursting with feeling about relationships: romantic, friendship, and company. On “Tears” he sings: we destroyed it all/I punched the wall again/But it had been stronger than my hands/And these were distended, they certainly were red/And I’m a fool/I’m not a lion, I’m a person we can’t outrun the hurt they said/But I’m able to love and love again/And you too, you too. “i’ve days very often where I find myself concerning ‘Tears,’ in many various ways,” he says candidly. “i’ve something which means everything if you ask me. Along With that connection and devotion comes the maximum moments in my own life but in addition a number of the most difficult.”

Another standout, “Creeps & Strangers” seizes another end associated with the psychological spectrum, recounting a particularly chilling experience. “My gf would take the coach to get results each day,” he remembers. “There had been this actually creepy man who does stare at her like he desired to murder the girl. It was terrible. I became in Nashville contemplating this creep and how i did son’t want the girl to drive the coach anymore. That concept fundamentally developed into something broader about people’s life in general, the routine, and planning to break through the cycle of things you hate.”

The hauntingly breathtaking “Fever” features a number of their many imaginative and stinging lyrical a few ideas. “There are three various tales in ‘Fever.’ The first tale we constructed, though it’s safe to say this happens constantly. The other two stories are personal stories from my entire life,” he describes. “Getting these tales away in these tracks is an enormous release for me personally. When I sing that track After All every word.”

The Tragic Thrills searched for producer Jason Lehning for his fingerprint aesthetic of sleek poise and unvarnished expressiveness. “Jason had been every thing I needed. He was the right stability of challenging me personally and letting me personally do my thing to fully capture an emotion,” explains Porter.

“The entire time I was making the record there is a sense of purpose,” Porter claims pensively, thinking back. “It felt like it was what I should be doing. That sense of purpose gets me through everything.”

“A Lucky Life” — A Play About Lou Gehrig

July 8th, 2014

“A Lucky Life” — A Play About Lou Gehrig
Event on 2014-07-22 19:15:00
"A Lucky Life" takes place on July 4, 1939. The New York Yankees and the Washington Senators are on the field between games of a double header. Lou Gehrig, 36 years old and suffering from ALS, is at his locker getting into his Yankee uniform to participate in his retirement ceremony. He is listening to a radio on the bench, where the broadcaster is reporting that he is appearing at his final game at Yankee Stadium today. That was 75 years ago. Of all the players in baseball history, none possessed as much talent and humility as Lou Gehrig. His accomplishments on the field made him an authentic American hero, and his tragic death made him a legend. Brandon Dahlquist, direct from Broadway's 'Bronx Bombers', plays Lou Gehrig in this production, which recently opened in June in Florida. Dahlquist engages the audience with little-known facts about Gehrig's life and brings-to-life the charm, character and courage that defines the legend's immortality. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the ALS Association.
