Please recommend things to do in Washington DC?

May 30th, 2014

Question by micuaro04: Please recommend things to do in Washington DC?

Best answer:

Answer by DC Bob
Washington Times put out a list of 35 must see. It is the first URL.
National Geographic put out a best of the best. Second URL.
I recommend:
For touring advice, I suggest visiting in five major areas. They are

1. Monuments and Memorials – these help make DC Unique. You can visit the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Vietnam Memorial on the mall, and the Jefferson memorial and FDR Memorial on the Tidal Basin, but there are memorials and monuments all over Washington. These should be a part of your visit.

2. The government buildings. In addition to the White House (which you can only see on a tour arranged by your member of congress) there is the Supreme Court (open M-F) the Capitol Building (M-Saturday), the Library of Congress, the National Archives, the U.S. Botanical Gardens, and the Bureau of Engraving and printing. Spend some time looking at how US government operates.

3. The museums. 16 different Smithsonian buildings, 14 of them in DC, the National Gallery of Art, the National Holocaust Memoral are all free and well worth visiting. Others, like the Newseum, Madame Tussauds, the Spy Museum, the Corcoran, the Phillips Collection – have a fee, but are worth it. I don’t know a city more museum rich than ours.

4. Visit a neighborhood. DC is much more than the museums and the government,; it’s a living vital city with some fantastic neighborhoods. Visit Shaw, where African American culture is paramount, Adams Morgan where diversity is the key, and Chinatown where earlier waves of immigrants made their mark. Foggy bottom is a great international district, the SW Waterfront has it’s own allure.

5. Check out culture, Free performances in the Kennedy Center, Military Band Concerts year round, World class theatre including the Shakespeare Theatre, the Arena Stage, Source, Signature, Wooley Mammoth and many more professional theatre companies are here, plus the National Orchestra, the Washington Ballet and a half dozen top rate choral groups!

This is my help from Washington, D.C. United States of America, currently in Pattaya, Thailand.

Pandora. It plays only artists that you like or it thinks you would like.

For instance, if you put in Slum Village, it would play SV, J Dilla, Elzhi, and other groups/artists like SV.

Question by yp_kevin_portland_600: I was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent place to stay not too far away from QWest Field?
I am coming up to Seattle from Portland for the U2 concert on June 4th. From what I understand QWest field isn’t in a great neighborhood. Any information on public transit would be welcome as well.

If you can afford it, there is a hotel right across the street. OR stay at the Pioneer Square hotel or the Marriott downtown (walking distance or short cab ride).

Just use Google Maps, search Hotel and see what ya get!

Where in central america would you recommend in December/January?

March 3rd, 2013

Question by Jessica H: Where in central america would you recommend in December/January?
A group of men/women looking for a good place to visit in Central America. What would you recommend? We’ve already been to Costa Rica. Looking for a combined adventure, water, surf and safety.

Best answer:

Answer by yellowstone
December and January has some of the best weather of the year throughout the region. For safety Panama is your best bet and then Belize (not quite as safe as either Panama or CR). There is quite a bit to do on the Pacific coast near the Costa Rican border in Panama (David area). Honduras is the most dangerous country in the hemisphere right now if you go by homicide rates (double that of Colombia and Mexico).

How would you recommend Lake Travis in Texas? Good for a Mini-Vacation from Houston? Party Scene? Expenses? Is there by any chance a place that you can go horseriding by the hour?

Best answer:

Answer by DCDARLING
I have friends that have houses on Travis and grew up in college going there all the time. It is a blast! It’s a great party scene, rent a house, some jet skiis or get to know someone who has a boat and you have an instant party!

I’m auditioning for a production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. What song would you recommend?

December 12th, 2012

Question by Alaina: I’m auditioning for a production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. What song would you recommend?
I’m an alto/mezzo, and the director isn’t limiting our selections to broadway music, it just has to have a “country” sound. What do you think?

Best answer:

Answer by AnnG
I am in the same boat (same sort of voice) but with a different show. I am auditioning for The Great American Trailer Park Musical. I read your question and thought maybe I can get a song from Best Little Whorehouse! Awesome! They are similar in style..country at least. Maybe you can do a song from Trailer Park.

I will post some music links from YouTube of some of the songs. They are all amatuers singing but you will get the idea.

Would you recommend the Washington Hilton Hotel?

April 10th, 2012

Question by Brad: Would you recommend the Washington Hilton Hotel?
I have read mixed reviews of the hotel. I have also seen pictures. Some pictures are fairly nice but others show some wear and tear in the rooms. I was just wondering if any of you out there have stayed or know anything about it. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Liv
I have stayed there before and it’s generally nice although some of the staff are really sort of stuck up snobs to be honest. It can also be pretty hard to use the pool at times, as lots of people go down there.
