Is there movie theater in the Baltimore, MD (or Washington, DC) area that shows the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

June 24th, 2011

Question by lottieda: Is there movie theater in the Baltimore, MD (or Washington, DC) area that shows the Rocky Horror Picture Show?
My daughter is stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland and a group of soldiers want to go see Rocky Horror. They are right between DC and Baltimore. Thanks!!!

Best answer:

Answer by OhKatie!
As a matter of fact there is! The question is how often they have shows. If your daughter or any of her friends have myspace, tell them to look for a profile for the Satanic Mechanics, they put on the shows at the Hoff Theater in the Stamp Student Union on the campus of the University of Maryland, only about 20 minutes from Ft.Meade. I used to go every month in high school and I loved it!

Good luck!

6 Reasons to Be Interviewed on Talk Radio Shows

June 21st, 2010

The general business rule is that marketing departments are out to increase brand awareness and build solid sales leads for their company. Many of these professionals are unaware of the power that PR can bring to their marketing efforts. Instead, it is quite common for businesses to go down the costly road of advertising to get their company, product or services the desired exposure. But there is a much more cost effective answer: being interviewed as a guest on talk radio. This is an excellent way for companies to gain excellent local and national consumer exposure Whether you are a web based business or a chain with national clientele – talk radio can get you in direct contact with your consumers. Why is talk radio such a public relations goldmine?

1. Demographics and Target Audience. “On the AM dial most listeners are 35 to 64 in age, 55% male to 45% female, a large percent graduated high school and went onto college”. “In addition to strong demographics there are also specialty talk shows that focus on finance, law, politics, health, relationships, lifestyles, consumer advocacy, sports, gardening and more so you can easily identify shows whose listeners are a match for your company, products and message.”

2. Cost Effective Promotion. Don’t think that because you are going to appear on a talk radio show that you will have to get on a plane! “Talk radio interviews are done by phone so no travel is involved. You don’t have to leave your home or office to do an interview so you can easily integrate these interviews into your work schedule.”

3. An Effective Sales Tool. Although public relations is definitely not paid advertising, if you get good coverage, it can be far more effective. “On talk radio, the majority of interviews are live, so it’s like having a conversation with hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of people while on one phone call”. “A compelling interview on talk radio can sell your product or service without the audience even realizing they’ve been sold. Listeners will want to know how to get whatever the guest is talking about. And most hosts will freely mention your website address or toll free number for you so you don’t sound like an infomercial.”

4. Third Party Endorsement. Talk radio hosts have loyal followings (that’s how they maintain their ratings). And listeners tune in daily to hear what their favorite host is talking about. “As that host is often thought of as an old friend or trusted adviser, when you appear as a guest on their show, listeners hear an implicit endorsement of you and your message.”

5. Credibility. This is a crucial ingredient in every marketing campaign – and talk radio supplies it in abundance! “One of my clients told us, “every show I’ve appeared on, the host tells his listeners about my great expertise, my many accomplishments and how proud they are to have me as a guest on their show! Of course, the more important I am as a guest, the more important the host appears to be. As far as promotion and credibility goes – it just doesn’t get any better!” Now that is some great PR!”

6. Enough Time to Tell Your Whole Story. With advertising you have a specific amount of space (in print) and time (on radio and TV). “As a guest you will often have ten to thirty minutes of time (sometimes more) with a very targeted and attentive audience to effectively tell your story, talk about the quality of your products or services and how it can benefit the listeners”.

Well there you go: 6 reasons to be interviewed on talk radio that will gain national or local PR for you, your company, products or services.

Simple & Easy Media Tips to Giving Good Interviews on Radio and Television Shows

June 4th, 2010

Who doesn’t want to get the word out about their company, service, or product? As a publicity expert with more than twenty years experience in the field, I have encountered hundreds of companies who have wanted the same thing. My answer is to appear as a guest on local radio, TV news shows and/or gain editorial coverage in print which will enable you to get the word out to thousands (and possibly millions) of consumers.

From my experience, here are some tips that will help anyone get started in the race to attract attention from the broadcast media – radio and TV. How To Know if You Are a Good Candidate for Radio and TV.

Almost anyone can be a candidate for radio and TV, but if you are a company with consumer-oriented products you are a perfect fit! If you are a professional firm with legal, financial or consumer related services this would work for you too. With specialty radio and TV programs on law, relationships, lifestyles, health, gardening and more, there are definitely shows out there that can be a perfect match for your message.

Does Practice Make Perfect?

Oh, definitely. The professionals who are in the media all the time make it look very easy, but actually it’s a skill. The more interviews you do, the better you get at defining your message and honing your presentation skills. And once you do a few radio call-in shows and speak to a few hosts, you’ll find that the questions you get are similar. Usually, there’s one area of your message that’s really interesting to people and you can start to craft your answers to respond about that area.

Where To Focus Your Pitches.

Local radio shows on the 250-watt or 1,000-watt AM stations are a great place to start. There’s also internet radio, which is becoming more popular and could be another good way to get started. With more radio shows going to national programming the weekend programs are also the best place to find radio shows that are looking for guests.

For TV go after your local morning news programs or weekend lifestyle segments. And there’s also community-access cable, which can be relatively easy to get on and can provide wonderful experience and a way to build up your confidence on camera.

How to Spark Producer Interest.

Well, first, stay up on the news. Listen to the radio, read newspapers, watch TV. That helps you figure out what’s in the news and how your message might tie in with it. Once you have an angle or tie-in to a current news story, put together a press release that positions you as an expert on this issue and sells them on why they should have you as a guest. Remember, pitch your expertise as a solution to a problem that’s making news – don’t go in with a sales angle!

Getting Prepared for the Interview.

Make sure you’re fully prepared with facts, figures, and anecdotes to talk about when you’re on the air. Make up a cheat sheet or note cards loaded with your best information and key points. Most TV interviews are going to be very short — three to five minutes at most — so you really must know your message before you go on the air.

Do some dry runs with a friend or business associate acting as the host, so you get your answers down. The audience can easily detect the difference between a guest bursting with knowledge and one whose knowledge well is drying up. If you don’t have much to say, you’ll lose the audience’s attention and any credibility that you were building with them.

Do As Many Interviews as Possible.

There is no such thing as overexposure; you want to conduct as many media interviews as you can. The more interviews that you do, the more buzz you will build about your company, product or service. And you should make yourself available at a moment’s notice, if need be. Talk radio interviews are typically done from your home or office, so that makes it very easy.

Think of media appearances as instant promotional opportunities, and be available day or night. Anytime you’re on the air, you’re going to boost your company, product or service’s visibility and sales.

How To Get Invited Back.

You need to sparkle on air. Enthusiasm speaks loud and clear, so in order to keep the audience attentive you need to maintain a high level of interest throughout the interview.

Remember, media is about entertainment. So you want to be both informative and entertaining, not boring. Do that and you’ll find the host jumping in to help you promote your message.

How to Give a Good Interview: Eat, Sleep and Turn Off Your Phone!

It sounds obvious, but the first thing is make sure you’re really well-rested and well-fed. Your attention isn’t going to be focused if you’re hungry or tired.

Also, if you’re doing a radio interview from your home or office, close yourself off in a room where there are as few distractions as possible. Get your cell phone out of there! Then, try and relax and be yourself. Nobody knows your message like you do — so you really are an expert. Have fun with it!

And don’t be too hard on yourself after your first appearance. No one goes out and bats a home run the first time at the plate. So try to be as comfortable as possible and as prepared as you can be, and then enjoy yourself.

“how to Pick the Right Radio Shows to Promote your Product.”

April 4th, 2010

Have you written a book and are searching for ways to promote it? Have you thought about the power of being a guest on radio shows? You can make huge amounts of money by promoting your book through radio shows.

There are almost 11,000 radio stations in America. This gives you a huge market in which to promote your book. However, most are too small and donâ??t reach very many people. You need to target the big stations.

How do you find information about these radio shows? You need to sign up with the Radio Television Interview Report (RTIR). You run an advertisement in this report which allows radio show hosts to find you and book you on their shows. It is mailed to radio hosts and producers.

You should target the big radio shows, but how do you determine whether or not a radio show is â??bigâ?? Most radio stations give two pieces of information: Station Market Ranking and Wattage. These numbers can be misleading if you donâ??t know how to interpret them.

Market Ranking is simply the size of the city they broadcast in. NYC has the biggest market ranking. This includes every radio station (big or small) that transmits in NYC. So the market ranking doesnâ??t tell you enough information.

Wattage denotes how big the radio signal is and how far it reaches. A high wattage doesnâ??t always mean that it has a large audience. The FCC doesnâ??t give much wattage to stations in big cities because they will bleed over into other stations in nearby stations. Therefore, â??bigâ? stations may actually have low wattage. Whereas a radio station in the cornfields may have high wattage, but really be a â??smallâ? radio station.

In essence, the station wattage is usually inversely proportional to the number of listeners they have.

So how do you find the real number of listeners for a radio station? There is a company called Arbitron. Arbiton tracks the numbers and rates radio stations. They sell the ratings information for large sums of money.

What can you offer a radio station host? How can you get them to book you on their show? Radio people are in the business of keeping and getting more listeners. The way they do that is to provide great content. They are always looking for content and guests. The radio stations as a whole need about 10,000 guests to fill up their airways. Therefore, they need you.

You can sell your book, website, EBooks, CDs, DVDs, speeches, teleseminars, etc. You can promote anything you want. You can build your list through radio shows. You can increase the size of your list over night. You build your list by pushing people to your website.

Add radio station promotion as a powerful tool to your publicity campaign. You would be surprised at how much extra income you can earn by being a guest on a radio show.
