How to make an simple FM transmitter Antenna

The basic purpose of an antenna is to increase the receptive power of the device it’s attached to. You can make a simple FM antenna that will increase the reception of any FM receiver that has an antenna port as part of its construction. You will need a few parts from a hobby or electronic store and some experience in using a soldering iron to properly make the FM antenna–however, no electrical skill is required.

1. Measure out 3 feet of the electric wire from the spool. Cut the electric wire using the wire cutters.

2. Unscrew the black plastic insulator plug off of the 2.5mm phone plug.

3. Strip off 1/2 inch of insulation from the end of the electric wire using the wire strippers.

4. Cut a 1-inch piece of the heat shrink tubing with the scissors. Push the piece of heat shrink tubing over the end of the wire that has just been stripped.

5. Solder the end of the wire to the inner terminal on the 2.5mm phone plug that has the wire hole in it.

6. Slide the heat shrink tubing down over the inner connector. Screw the black plastic insulator back onto the the 2.5mm phone plug.

7. Plug the 2.5mm phone plug into the antenna port of the FM device. Unfurl the electric wire.

The antenna, as shown in the diagram below, is square and is made by wrapping wire

around a frame of crossing rods.

If you are an avid AM radio listener, whether it be on a old fashioned radio, a new AM/FM radio or a shortwave radio, you know it is a bit of a challenge to pick up the radio signal from the AM frequency. There are a lot of things that can cause interference, but with the right radio and a good antenna you can listen to stations from a thousand miles away.

FM transmitters are usually battery driven, but some use the cigarette lighter socket in cars, or draw their power from the device itself. They are typically used with portable audio devices such as CD or MP3 players, but are also used to broadcast other outputs (such as that from a computer sound card) throughout a home or other building.

If you are interested in listening to music, you should pay more attention to this and buy a fm transmitter put in your house, want to know more information, Please click simple fm transmitter

3 Simple Steps to Succeed With Your Online Music Promotion

3 Simple Steps to Succeed With Your Online Music Promotion

Online music promotion is an essential part of any artist’s successful marketing campaign in the “new music” business model.

The music business has been forced to change its business model as a result of the internet. This in the long term is good for musician’s bands and artists as they have more control of promoting themselves online using the various platforms of web 2.0 and are not as beholden to record companies as they were.

So how do we market music online?

Well it’s the same 3 step plot that’s always been there.

People hear music – People like the music – People buy the music
It’s almost as simple as that!

1. People Hear Music

Radio has traditionally been a very successful driver of album and single sales. People want and need to hear the entire song and need to hear it several times until it gets into their subconscious.

So do not bother with 30 second samples and streaming. Let the fans download specific music tracks for free and allow them to integrate your music into their daily lives.

2. People like Music

Having heard a song a few times people may decide they love the song and become fans and they will pay some money later once you have got them into your marketing funnel.
As opposed to letting them hear 30 – 40 seconds of the track and then they just move onto the next thing that’s on offer.

3. People buy Music

Once you have established a relationship with that fan and they have received free music from you or your artist you can start to think about building an economic relationship with the fan.

Giving music away is part of your online music promotion and so is selling music. I am not just saying give all your music away and make money on the live concerts and gigs. This goes much deeper into the psychology of selling.

Fans will buy music and associated products like Concert tickets and Merchandise.

You cannot convert a music browser into a purchasing fan in a few minutes. They need to hear the song around 7 times and feel a rapport with the artist.

Once the fan has downloaded free songs and you have established that relationship with them. You are now able to connect with them via Twitter, Facebook or YouTube and send them marketing messages.

Hear music – Like Music – Buy Music

Two Way Radios: Simple and Cost-effective

June 9th, 2010

Before embarking on to write about the features and advantages of two way radios, it would not be out of place to first explain what exactly are two way radios. Well, they can be termed as transceivers that possess the capability to transmit and receive voice signals. It has a push to talk button that gets the device activated. Also popular as walkie-talkies, this hand held two-way device is available in mobile and stationery base configuration. It would be interesting to know that earlier this device was used exclusively by defence forces and police, though it is now increasingly finding favour with the civilian population.

Increased use of these two way radios have led to more and more innovation being introduced into the device. New models are being launched and every new model include some new feature, which has increased its popularity manifold. Two way radios include several channels as well, and the number of channels available depend on the type of radio being used. For example, there are 23 channels in GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and 14 in FRS (Family Radio Service).

There are several other features as well that go a long way in making two way radios popular. Their batteries, for example, are extremely durable. Also, there are different sets for different people. People who use these radios abundantly should go in for Nickel Metal Hydride or Nickel Cadmium batteries that can be recharged. Where as people who use it sparingly should opt for AA and AAA alkaline batteries. Then, two way radios can be easily carried any where. These days, many radios provide their users with weather forecast by meteorological department as well.

With so many outstanding features, it rarely should come as a surprise to anyone that two way radios have become so popular amongst the masses today.

Creating a Simple Mobile Pirate Radio Station

June 5th, 2010

Pirate radio stations are have become something of a fad during the past 30 years as the technology has become more available and especially in the last 10 years as digital media has become THE way to listen to music. Starting a radio station may be easier than most people realize, especially with some of the tools that are readily available now.

Most radio stations use a Trylon tower or some other variety of radio tower. Additionally, radio pirates have been known to modify WISP towers to broadcast a signal. The FCC has very strict regulations on the use of WISP towers, Trylon towers and all other broadcast devices and you should research their guidelines and follow all laws and regulations implicitly. However, if you keep broadcast frequencies within the limits, there’s a lot of fun to be had.

iPods and other MP3 players hold large amounts of media, and can be used to start small, low frequency pirate radio stations without the use of a large radio tower. There are a wide selection of FM frequency transmitters available for MP3 players that can help you create a low-frequency channel.

To modify an FM modulator, you will need to access the internal antenna. By exposing the antenna from the plastic cover you can significantly increase the range of the FM transmitter. Be forewarned however that this will, in all likelihood, void the warranty. There are some creative ways to boost the signal beyond this, by using small antennas, but you run the risk of damaging your device if you are not careful.

After exposing the antenna, you will need to make sure you have access to all of the available FM frequencies that your MP3 players. Some transmitters come pre-programmed, but others may require you to install software. Once the FM transmitter is ready, you can begin to broadcast a mobile pirate radio station.

If you have ever used a device that uses FM modulation you might have been sitting at a red light and noticed that you can hear music from another care nearby. This is the basic principle in mobile-pirate radio. If you can create an FM frequency that is strong enough to disturb others, and you can broadcast that frequency across multiple bands, you can create a pirate radio station without the aid of expensive radio towers.

This activity can be fun and enjoyable especially when you run across people who insist upon rolling their windows down and blasting the radio at its highest volume. Using your newly created MP3 player pirate radio station, you can take matters into your own hands and have a little fun at the same time. Imagine replacing Hip Hop with Classical Standards… That’s entertainment.

Simple & Easy Media Tips to Giving Good Interviews on Radio and Television Shows

June 4th, 2010

Who doesn’t want to get the word out about their company, service, or product? As a publicity expert with more than twenty years experience in the field, I have encountered hundreds of companies who have wanted the same thing. My answer is to appear as a guest on local radio, TV news shows and/or gain editorial coverage in print which will enable you to get the word out to thousands (and possibly millions) of consumers.

From my experience, here are some tips that will help anyone get started in the race to attract attention from the broadcast media – radio and TV. How To Know if You Are a Good Candidate for Radio and TV.

Almost anyone can be a candidate for radio and TV, but if you are a company with consumer-oriented products you are a perfect fit! If you are a professional firm with legal, financial or consumer related services this would work for you too. With specialty radio and TV programs on law, relationships, lifestyles, health, gardening and more, there are definitely shows out there that can be a perfect match for your message.

Does Practice Make Perfect?

Oh, definitely. The professionals who are in the media all the time make it look very easy, but actually it’s a skill. The more interviews you do, the better you get at defining your message and honing your presentation skills. And once you do a few radio call-in shows and speak to a few hosts, you’ll find that the questions you get are similar. Usually, there’s one area of your message that’s really interesting to people and you can start to craft your answers to respond about that area.

Where To Focus Your Pitches.

Local radio shows on the 250-watt or 1,000-watt AM stations are a great place to start. There’s also internet radio, which is becoming more popular and could be another good way to get started. With more radio shows going to national programming the weekend programs are also the best place to find radio shows that are looking for guests.

For TV go after your local morning news programs or weekend lifestyle segments. And there’s also community-access cable, which can be relatively easy to get on and can provide wonderful experience and a way to build up your confidence on camera.

How to Spark Producer Interest.

Well, first, stay up on the news. Listen to the radio, read newspapers, watch TV. That helps you figure out what’s in the news and how your message might tie in with it. Once you have an angle or tie-in to a current news story, put together a press release that positions you as an expert on this issue and sells them on why they should have you as a guest. Remember, pitch your expertise as a solution to a problem that’s making news – don’t go in with a sales angle!

Getting Prepared for the Interview.

Make sure you’re fully prepared with facts, figures, and anecdotes to talk about when you’re on the air. Make up a cheat sheet or note cards loaded with your best information and key points. Most TV interviews are going to be very short — three to five minutes at most — so you really must know your message before you go on the air.

Do some dry runs with a friend or business associate acting as the host, so you get your answers down. The audience can easily detect the difference between a guest bursting with knowledge and one whose knowledge well is drying up. If you don’t have much to say, you’ll lose the audience’s attention and any credibility that you were building with them.

Do As Many Interviews as Possible.

There is no such thing as overexposure; you want to conduct as many media interviews as you can. The more interviews that you do, the more buzz you will build about your company, product or service. And you should make yourself available at a moment’s notice, if need be. Talk radio interviews are typically done from your home or office, so that makes it very easy.

Think of media appearances as instant promotional opportunities, and be available day or night. Anytime you’re on the air, you’re going to boost your company, product or service’s visibility and sales.

How To Get Invited Back.

You need to sparkle on air. Enthusiasm speaks loud and clear, so in order to keep the audience attentive you need to maintain a high level of interest throughout the interview.

Remember, media is about entertainment. So you want to be both informative and entertaining, not boring. Do that and you’ll find the host jumping in to help you promote your message.

How to Give a Good Interview: Eat, Sleep and Turn Off Your Phone!

It sounds obvious, but the first thing is make sure you’re really well-rested and well-fed. Your attention isn’t going to be focused if you’re hungry or tired.

Also, if you’re doing a radio interview from your home or office, close yourself off in a room where there are as few distractions as possible. Get your cell phone out of there! Then, try and relax and be yourself. Nobody knows your message like you do — so you really are an expert. Have fun with it!

And don’t be too hard on yourself after your first appearance. No one goes out and bats a home run the first time at the plate. So try to be as comfortable as possible and as prepared as you can be, and then enjoy yourself.

Advertising on the Radio = Keeping it Simple

October 28th, 2009

Advertising On The Radio – Keep It Simple

Let’s say you spent good money on a brochure. Several pages filled with features, benefits, facts, figures, call to action, contact info…oh yeah, paragraphs about who you are, what you do….the different services you provide, your product offerings…and the list goes on and on. Everything you believe a potential client would need or want to know about your business. Now you are interested in advertising on the radio.

Here’s a great radio advertising tip -

Don’t let your radio commercials end up like your brochure.

Advertising on the radio works best when it is simple and effective.

First…a given. If you are going to advertise on the radio. Make sure you have a product that has demand. In another article we discuss the topic of Direct Response Radio Advertising Mistakes: A Product No One Wants. With that said, lets move on to advertising on the radio assuming there is demand for your product or service.

Simplicity is the key to effective direct response radio advertising. Face it, when you are buying fifteen, thirty, even sixty seconds worth of radio advertising, you don’t have the time to create an audio brochure. Radio advertising is a powerful advertising medium, but can it work for you?

Yes it can. You just need to make sure your direct response radio advertising campaign is just that…DIRECT. When advertising on the radio, get right to the point. What is the problem your potential customers face? What is the solution? (Hopefully this is where you have inserted your company name). What benefit does your company provide that solves the problem? And most important of all…what would make me choose your company? Here is where the irresistible offer comes in. Direct response radio advertising is rooted in a foundation of “what’s in it for me”. Give me reason to call. A free offer…free sample…free estimate…deep discount…money back guarantee…whatever your feel is important to your potential customer. This offer helps “grease the skids” and provides a strong incentive to call or click.

And speaking of calls and clicks – If you are advertising on the radio, you must make your call to action clear, concise and memorable. In other words, if you are driving to a toll free number, make sure you are not advertising some random ten digits that are difficult to remember. Use vanity phone numbers. Vanity phone numbers provide sticking power in the listeners mind. What will you remember more – 1-800-I-ATE-A-BUG or 1-800-428-3228 (plus the extra useless digit)? You can use a combination of vanity numbers or words and number for tracking purposes. If you are directing your radio advertising campaign to a URL. Make sure it’s a simple domain name. No long URL’s with dashes and slashes and long strings of weird variables. Simple works better. And again, you can use a variety of simple domains for tracking. And make sure you mention your number or URL at least a couple of times throughout the radio commercial.

So what have you learned here?

When advertising on the radio, keep it simple. Get directly to the problem, the solution, the benefit, the irresistible offer, and the clear call to action. Keep this simple structure in mind, and your chances of success when advertising on the radio dramatically increase.
