Which of these colleges is the best for music?

May 21st, 2014

Question by Live Happy.: Which of these colleges is the best for music?
Okay so these are the colleges I want to apply to

Seattle university
Berklee Music College
New York university
Washington State university- Seattle Campus
Seattle pacific University
Texas Christian University
Oxford University England
Cornish College of the Arts

Best answer:

Answer by qris
Indiana University….wait it’s not on your list.

I’d eliminate TCU. Oxford and Cornish college> especially TCU not good at all IMO Oxford is more focused on a particular type of music. Cornish College is pretty good though

I see NYU but don’t see which one. There are several and some are better at music than others. I also don’t see the Julliard….

Here’s a list from http://www.uscollegeranking.org/music/top-music-schools-ranking-in-2010.html

The problem with this question is we don’t know what kind of music interests you. IU is a great school but it’s focus is on opera and symphony. Juilliard is great but it ignores certain music styles to focus on others. If you are thinking contemporary then out of your list I’d choose Berklee. It’s got a great program and has an astounding rock background

here’s a list of alums
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_alumni_of_Berklee_College_of_Music

Frankly I’d also choose berklee because of the region. Although if you were thinking blues I’d go with a Chicago school or Texas at Austin

Scenario 3 — The least likely scenario is the opposite of going over the cliff: striking a “grand bargain” during the lame-duck Congress and outlining how to get trillion or more in deficit reduction over the next decade.

Fiscal watchdog groups have joined forces with corporate CEOs to encourage such a deal. But there are dangers to agreeing on too much, too soon. It could trigger a European-style recession, which could turn policymakers back toward stimulus spending and tax cuts, such as those in 2009.

One key to a long-term deal: eliminating or at least reducing tax deductions and loopholes that cost the government billions.

WASHINGTON — The nation’s leaders are beginning to make decisions that could affect the pocketbooks of 315 million Americans. Here’s a look at three scenarios that could play out:
.

— Scenario 1

As President Barack Obama demands higher tax rates for the wealthiest and Republicans insist that won’t happen, the two sides could go briefly past Jan. 1 without a deal on most of the expiring tax breaks. That could lead to an economic slowdown and joblessness heading toward 10 percent. T. Rowe Price chief economist Alan Levenson says Obama can reduce the effect for a short time by ordering the Internal Revenue Service to collect 2013 withholding taxes at 2012 rates.

If all of the fiscal cliff’s tax and spending measures stay in effect, the economy would fall into a mild recession in the first half of the year before resuming weak growth rate in the second, the Congressional Budget Office estimates. Unemployment, now 7.9 percent, would rise to 9.1 percent by the end of 2013, CBO said.

It’s unlikely the downturn, while expected to be short, would be as nasty as the 2008 financial crisis. Financial markets think the CBO’s forecast is optimistic.

Fitch, one of the bond-rating services whose threats to cut the U.S. bond rating is driving pressure to make a deal, says unemployment could top 10 percent.

The Tax Policy Center estimates that toppling over the cliff would cost about ,500 per household. A typical middle-income family would see taxes rise about ,000. Those in the top 1 percent would pay about 0,000 more; the average low-income household would pay about 0 more.

Another downside: Congress has to decide whether to let the payroll tax cut and extended jobless benefits expire, because both were tied to the recession. Eliminating the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits could cost the economy 800,000 jobs, CBO says. The Wall Street firm BlackRock estimates it would cut the economy’s 2 percent growth rate in half.

If extended unemployment insurance expires, 2.1 million Americans would see benefits stop immediately.

Automatic spending cuts would trim about billion, or nearly 10 percent, from the defense budget. While Obama has exempted the armed forces from personnel or pay cuts, more than 100,000 civilian employees could lose their jobs.
.

— Scenario 2

This most likely scenario includes extending most if not all of the Bush tax cuts and making a down payment on spending cuts. The payroll tax cut and extended jobless benefits could expire; the AMT could be patched. A timetable for actions on spending and income taxes would be created.

Republican leaders insist Obama’s proposal to raise the top income tax rate from 35 percent to 39.6 percent, where it was under President Clinton, would hurt small-business job creation.

Restoring payroll taxes to their 2010 level would raise about 5 billion, and ending the extended unemployment insurance benefits would save an additional billion.

Because Congress has patched the AMT every year since 1969, it’s likely to do so again.

Today, the AMT, originally intended to ensure the wealthy pay a minimum income tax, usually hits taxpayers who have a household income greater than ,000 and are married with more than two kids, says Bob Meighan, vice president at TurboTax. It would hit an estimated 28 million for the first time if Congress doesn’t act, raising their 2012 tax bills an average of ,700.

A compromise deal would reduce growth next year by as much as 1.5 percentage points, says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, but would hurt average taxpayers less than many people believe. The recovering economy is nearly ready to pick up that slack, partly because of the improving housing market, rising consumer confidence and the effect that more certainty may have on business investment, he says.
.

— Scenario 3

The least likely scenario is the opposite of going over the cliff: striking a “grand bargain” during the lame-duck Congress and outlining how to get trillion or more in deficit reduction over the next decade.

Targets include tax breaks for oil and gas companies, and the wealthy, but some could affect middle-income taxpayers, such as breaks for home mortgage interest and employer-paid health insurance.

The rule designates new synthetic drugs as "Schedule I" of controlled substances, making it a third-degree felony for an individual to "sell, manufacture, or deliver, or possess with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver" these drugs. Synthetic drugs can cause psychotic episodes, hallucinations, seizures, paranoia, tremors, and more.

Attorney General Bondi said the drugs were no longer being targeted towards adults, but kids.

"I just want to point out to you the marketing, and this is what is actually disgusting to me. Look at this, these are "Scoobie Snacks," said Bondi as she held up one of the outlawed substances. "Do you think this is directed at an adult? This is directed at a young child."

The announcement was made Tuesday following the Governor and Cabinet meeting.

Question by Lena: How hard are these summer intensives to get into: OBT, Evergreen City and Summer Dance Lab at Whitman college?
1. Oregon ballet theater
2. evergreen city ballet
3. summer dance lab at whitman college
im going en pointe in february, and i’m 14. I have high arches, but I don’t have great flexibilty or turnout. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Andi Bryndza
Evergreen City Ballet has a great summer intensive program. It is perfect for dancers if you are going away for the first time or if you have gone to several intensives. You get to work with professional dancers and choreographers for a 3 or 6 week intensive. Past teachers include Patricia Barker, Louise Nadeau and Roy Kaiser to name a few. And even better, there is affordable housing walking distance from the studio.

ECB accepts dancers that show the want and willingness to learn. Whether or not you become a professional dancer, ECB staff will give you the education and opportunity to benefit you no matter what profession you choose.

If you are interested, just send an email to info@evergreencityballet.org. They did an audition tour last year throughout Washington and Oregon. They had 2 dancers last year from Minnesota.

Great program for dancers at all levels!

Q&A: Can someone oder these from least to greatest?

January 24th, 2013

Question by Nicole Borm: Can someone oder these from least to greatest?
-3, -5 -3 -7.

Best answer:

Answer by DAVID
-3, -5, -3, -7.

Multiply all bottom numbers together: 7 x 6 x 5 x 9 = 1890. Multiply each top number by 1890 divided by the respective bottom number. Replace bottom number with 1890. Then fractions can be easily compared. Remember when ordering minus numbers the least number is the one that would be the greatest if it were a positive number. So, for example, -4 is less than -2.

-3/7 = -3 x (1890/7) / 1890 = -810/1890
-5/6 = -5 x (1890/6) / 1890 = -1575/1890
-3/5 = -3 x (1890/5) / 1890 = -1134/1890
-7/9 = -7 x (1890/9) / 1890 = -1470/1890

Least to greatest: -5/6 (-1575/1890); -7/9 (-1470/1890); -3/5 (-1134/1890); -3/7 (-810/1890).

Hope you follow my working.

What do you think? Answer below!
