I need to travel from washington dc to ottawa in january. What would be the cheapest/best way to do that. I don’t want to spend too much money on it and flights seem to be too expensive, minimum around 500…

Best answer:

Answer by John L
Cheapest? hitchhike

You can fly from Washington to Montreal for $ 382 RT, then take the train to Ottawa for $ 70 RT. The Dorval train station is very close to the Montreal airport, and Via Rail is supposed to have a free connecting bus.

Airport travel to hotel in washington dc?

May 10th, 2011
Hotel in Washington
by wallyg

Question by maria46622: Airport travel to hotel in washington dc?
I am arriving in washington dc from europe in late may and am staying at the Hay-Adams hotel…how far is it from washington dulles airport and whats the best way to get to the hotel…taxi/bus etc?

how long will it take and how much should it cost?

thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by brodyburks
There are several options for getting to the Hay Adams. The cheapest one is the bus. The Metro has an express bus that runs from Dulles into Washington DC. It is 3 dollars, and will drop you off at either Lenfant Plaza or Rosslyn Metro stations. From there you would take the Orange or Blue subway line to Farragut West. That station is only a block or so from the Hay Adams. The Bus ride is 3 dollars, the metro ride would be $ 1.35. The time will depend somewhat on traffic, but figure a little over an hour.

You can also take a taxi into the city. It truthfully won’t save you a whole lot of time, as the bus only makes 3 stops and they are subject to the same whims of traffic. However, it will be much easier from a luggage standpoint. Figure on about 45 minutes. The disadvantage is cost. It will be about $ 55 dollars as a base fair, higher if you get stuck in traffic, plus a tip. so figure on $ 60+.

You can split the difference between the two with a SuperShuttle. It’s like a bus in that multiple people get on it. However, it takes each of them to their door. Think of it as a very large shared taxicab. The benefit of it is that you get the convenience of a taxi- being dropped off at your door, not having to worry about luggage, and it only costs $ 25-30, or about half the taxi fare. The downside is that it has to drop off multiple passengers. So if you’re the last one on the dropoff, it may take an hour and a half or more to get where your going.

So anyway- those are your options. I always do the bus, but that’s because I’m a cheapskate. If you’re coming from Europe and staying at the Hay Adams, it’s entirely possible that you’ll not want to mess with getting your luggage on and off the bus and metro.

Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!
