Sounds Natural But Are They? The Secret of How Online Radio Presenters Make Their Links Work

They are able to connect with the listeners seemingly in an effortless way. For those who have ever tried their hand at speaking in public being presenter, tv, radio or as a speaker, you’ll know that what looks easy is, for most of us, hard!

So how do you have coming across like the pro especially in online radio? The secret is not just talent but hard work. Preparation behind the scenes is the key. According to Chris Evans, the UK’s Radio 2 national breakfast DJ, every link needs to have a beginning, a middle and an end.

All very well in theory but in reality you also have the added pressure of that large camera lens, a microphone or even an audience staring directly at you. You also have the clock ticking quickly, or so it seems.

The secret is thinking about the links beforehand but here’s the crucial bit, writing them down before the show. You see it’s much easier to ad lib when something is written down rather trying to make it all up in your head.

But what content do you put into your links? Look around you, talk about personal life. You may have had an awful journey to work so chances are that your listeners will share your empathy. Think also about other share experiences that you and your listeners may have had. What about school days or a holidays by the seaside? A little bit of observation can help produce stunning content for links. As a result you too could sound like the pros.

The secret to sounding like the pros during any kind of public speaking, including online radio, has to be preparation and that means writing links beforehand.
