Image by Penn State Libraries Pictures Collection
Title : City and County Building
Creator : Allied Architects Association; Fuller, Robert K.
Creator role : Architect
Date : 1929(ground broken) 1932 (completed)
Current location : Denver, Colorado, United States
Description of work : Thirty-nine local architects formed the Allied Architects Association of Denver to submit a design and won the contract for this building; Fuller served as president. When a court challenge forced the association to disband, Fuller was named lead architect. The exterior is Cotopaxi granite from Colorado and Georgia, and carved by John Garatti, a Venetian-trained master carver from Minnesota. The four-story building has a bell tower that is topped with a six foot six inch bronze eagle and a clock. The original massive bronze doors at the entries were removed in the 1960s.
