Should the Washington Nationals try to celebrate Walter Johnson’s career, as a way to bring attention to team?

May 2nd, 2010

Just an idea. They’re not having that good of a season. Johnson did play for the Washington team, and retired to live in Maryland. Widely considered one of the top 5 best baseball pitchers ever, and was First Ballot for Hall of Fame.

On the other hand, he’s been dead for about 60 years.

The only thing that will bring them attention is if they start winning. Winning makes all the difference. Who wants to see a team that is gonna lose over 100 games?

They seem to be doing well.

Johnson never played for the Washington Nationals and 98% of the people today unfortunately have no idea who Walter Johnson is.

id say honor him and his accomplishments but dont try to make it the highlight of the season. even though it would probably be more impressive than any thing they do on the field

That wouldn’t be a bad idea. Though Johnson played for the Senators, which aren’t exactly the Nationals. It would kinda be like the Montreal Expos celebrating Walter Johnson. That would kinda be weird.

They should honor the Expos team that would have won the World Series during the strike season. Walter Johnson played for the Minnesota Twins franchise.

Walter Johnson was never in the Washington Nationals franchise. He played for the Washington Senators who are the present-day Minnesota Twins. If anything, the Nationals should celebrate Stephen Strassburg and the future they have in their pitching staff.

    good idea

seems to me a ceremony would come off as a bit random. Maybe a bobblehead day or something for him. Giveaways usually fill the stands pretty well. More popular teams use giveaways on holidays and other occasions where the stands will likely be mostly empty. So maybe having a Walter Johnson day or something would be cool.

Johnson pitched for the Washington Senators that eventually became the Minnesota Twins. If any team can celebrate his greatness and skill, it should be the Twins.
